true to get merit for good posts and useful for others, using services to get merit is a big mistake, chances are your account will be permanently blocked.

Merits can neither be received for whatever reason a certain person would have neither for a good post, appreciation of the service you had given but never ever consider on buying merits
because this is really against the rules of this forum and once you've been caught then say goodbye to your account because it would really be negged.So its still useless.
Nothing beats out on making your account to rank up on a certain rank with all of your hardwork and effort.

Very interesting to see the reactions to the newly introduced concept of merit as an additional indicator of account maturity and quality beyond just pure number of posts / activity. While this was introduced to increase post quality it has of course created a counter movement and a market place for "trading" merit - for money.
So this is just a reminder for everyone that the introduction of merit is a GOOD thing because it will help improve the quality of this forum for everybody.

"Trading" merit will undermine this and render it eventually useless.

I am also very excited to see this subject. Well it will help lots of users and motivated to work with bitcointalk forum. They will enjoying soo much when they see their hardwork got awarded through the platform plus when they done something for someone he also loved their work. Then we will enjoy also. Another thing i want to say constractive message always rewarded. Am i right sir?

I think anyone caught in the act of trading sMerit should be banned alongside the buyer, but then, the question now is how do we know people commit this crime?
Am totally not in support of sMerit trading so am suggesting that if the Admins can come up with a strategy to verify each sMerit being sent to a member, to make sure it's not being traded, then it will for sure be a step forward for this great forum.

It's impossible to determine merit trading unless someone exposed the private conversation for the transaction. Before, DT can red tag accused user if they find some connection and anomaly on sending/receiving merit. This time they can't give a red tag for a merit related issue without a solid proof just like what I stated above.

I don't know why this is a big deal, Even though user buy fake merit to rank up, He can't still participate on signature campaign or become a trusted member here if his post is garbage and nonsense. Still you néed to improve your post quality to make a decent profile here.

Only bounty campaign with BS bounty manager will accept this kind of account. Trusted manager always check post quality and never accept garbage account even though he received tons of merit.

It isn't crime but more like dishonesty, I think crime is an exaggerating concept just because of the act of merit selling or buying. By the way, the only obvious case that people may be red trusted or anything maybe flag is when they found they are alt of each other and it's exchanging merits onto his other alt/s, just my two cents.

There's no way to tell there's a buying/selling happening as there is/are no tool/s to determine that. Well, maybe there are determinants for example user A sent huge sMerit to user B but the post isn't worthy of a merit so on that it will make doubts about that merited post. Moreover, even by that scenario some people find it still vague but it's expected to give them both the benefit nof the doubt.

Just imagine if there was no 'merit' system then we would see tens of thousands of spammer become legendary. The 'merit' system is perfect for getting members to enhance their posts.

Yeah, right I think it is better for our own good I think. If merits don't get implemented the forum would probably become a mess. There will be a lot of accounts will become legendary/hero with just posting a useless kind of stuff, not making any effort and such. The merit system serves as a regulator for this forum. However, I heard some stories that other members try to cheat and trade merits with others which is kinda sad because they disregard the main purpose of the merit system. But there are some people who chasing this kind of doing making them pay for what they did like giving them a red tag.

Merit system is the best modification that had been done on this forum to prevent out those ranking up on accounts without any hardship or efforts but only posting out and wait up for the right time for them to rank up.

This idea was perfect to prevent the spam of this forum yet we know on how high ranking members of this forum do make out money that came out from promotions which means majority will
be aiming on ranking up their accounts in no time.

If you do try to look at on what happened and compared the intensity of spam of this forum before and after merit system had been created then you can tell the difference.

But let's not deny the fact that newbies need to double their effort since mostly they are the one who last to be noticed and receive those merits in terms of posting some good contents mostly the one who get merits are those high ranks with good reputation here, I don't mean this happen always but this is what I notice here.

But newbies shouldn't get discourage upon receiving those merit slow since this is pretty normal they should make sure to be active and continue to contribute a good post since for sure that one will be the key to rank up here.

I totally subscribe to your views about current merit system which has made difficult for new comers to rank up as people give merits based on personnel liking or groups of people share merits among them and  quality of posts is not the only criteria to get merit which was the core purpose of introducing merit system. The management of the Forum should review it and make an objective assessment " whether this system is achieving its desired goals or not".

That’s very unfortunate that people have started buying and selling merits along with high level accounts. This will greatly degrade quality of contents posted here. Many times we saw very basic questions coming from Senior level and up accounts that’s because newbie buy high level accounts.
