I think bittrex or coinbase are more secure but you can still get it through peer to peer but must be from an escrow or consider kucoin, livecoin, binance and so on

Bittrex is currently closed for new registrations and I wouldn't recommend them even if it was open as the amount of unsolved scam complaints are certainly not to be ignored.

Coinbase should be fine as long as you'll only use it for buying (not for very large amounts).

or find a legit seller here in BTCtalk?

But since most exchanges are unstable these days, I'll be recommending that one. You can go look here: Currency exchange. Only transact with a trusted member if not, use an escrow. For starters you can either go with Zazarb or sardasa assuming that they're still offering their services, Just always proceed with caution.

EDIT: Found their thread!!!

I am assuming you're looking to buy like BTC or ethereum for a start. If so, it depends where you live, either a local exchange or you can use the well known ones (usually they have higher fees but safe to buy from) something like: CEX, GDAX and Local Bitcoin. After that, if you want to exchange your BTC or ETH to altcoins, you can trade at KuCoin and/or Binance and/or Bittrex, they're user-friendly (compare to Yobit or Etherdelta).

As a newbbie, you should find some local crypto forums to get in, not only to buy your first coin but also to learn from local users' experiences. When I was a new bie like you a few years ago, I used to do that, it helped me a lot because I didn't have neither experience nor capital to start to earn money with crypto. By joining local crypto forums, you can learn a lot of stuff that will benefit you in the future, when you are using crypto. Good luck with your earning Wink

I don't think finding a trader here is not a good idea because you are newbie so there are chances for you to getting scammed,so go with the exchanges.

There are lots of exchanges are available so choose the exchange based on what coin you are buying,if you are buying only the bitcoins then you can buy with coinbase exchange and it is one of the simple way and also you can buy the bitcoins at the best price in coinbase.Or else you can buy with localbitcoins.com and it is almost available in all the countries so you can use you local currency to buy bitcoins.

Or if you are looking for other coins then poloniex exchange is a good option and most of the other exchanges closed the new registrations.

BUY BITCOIN WITH PAYPAL AND CREDIT CARDS

It depends on which payment system you prefer to use.
Some exchanges accept credit cards, others paypal while the majority accept only bank wires (and thus you need to wait several days...)

In my opinion the true spirit of cryptocoins is going peer-to-peer. So find a reliable user and arrange a deal with him!

If you are going to use the crypto currency for storage and not for bidding, then first select your wallet. In most wallets there is a function to buy crypto.

You're not going to get any deal for your fiat currency on bittrex. They just don't deal with fiat at all.

Go through a legit seller on bitcointalk if I were you. Or use paxful. Both are going to mean high premiums, but at least you won't have any issues with verification or the exchange holding your funds for prolonged periods of time.

Obviously, store it in a wallet instead of exchange. Otherwise, your funds are not really yours but someone else's.

Wish you all the best.

I would definitely go for Localbitcoins (LBC) over any centralised exchange. For a newcomer, I think you should really experience your first buy from a peer-to-peer platform like LBC.

1. Price-wise, they're pretty decent, depending on location. Don't let the trades there fool you, they might seem expensive but what you buy is what you get (all the fees are already included in price), unlike the rates published at others like Coinbase, where you'll receive a smaller amount after fees, commissions, exchange rate. So for a newbie, I think it's best if you want 1 BTC, you see instantly the price you have to pay and you get exactly the amount you bought.

2. Speed. We've all heard about problems with exchanges. Delays in verification, poor customer support. With LBC, depending on your mode of payment, you get your Bitcoins quickly. All my trades in my home country are with online bank transfer, which can even be instant, so I conclude them in less than 5 minutes.

3. Safety. Choose only LBC's online trade so you're protected by system escrow. Meaning, when you confirm the buy trade, the BTC is locked in escrow pending your payment. It's one of the most secure ways to buy Bitcoin I know of.

Either way, whichever place you eventually choose, my advice is always to fully verify your account first before attempting to trade. You don't want issues AFTER you've bought.

Yeah bitrex may can be second time he used it because without any crypto you cannot sell or buy other coins.  I suggest op should goes to local bitcoins.com I believe many people invest on the bitcoin so using LBC to buy bitcoins and go ahead to choose the other coins you are looking to invest on it.

There are many exchanges out there and it's not easy for newbies to choose the best one. I can suggest you to take a look at this comparison: https://exchangewar.info/ and this other comparison: https://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/volume/24-hour/

Also, you can arrange a deal with a user here on bitcointalk: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=53.0

It also depends on which specific coin you like to buy...

Exchangewar who knows this site. I do not think that he have the any coins buy the other coins. Most of the exchanges support the crpyto currencies only to invest on it. If they accepts the fiat cash it could helpful to the newbie.
I suggest him to buy the bitcoins on the localbitcoins.com or Coinbase. Then he has to hold the certain amount in the wallet and buy some potential altcoins from the Bitrex, bitfinex or polenix.
They are seems good trading sites in the market.

There are lots of legit trading site where you can buy cryptocurrency but you must buy bitcoin first before you can go buying other crypto or if you wanted to directly buying it the only legit and safe that i know is bittrex and gdax that you can use your Debit card to deposit and buy cryptocurrency directly..
Unlike other trading site poloniex and cryptopia.
This is i think you should know first if which trading site that you can directly buy cryptocurrency..

- Don't be an average bubble headed idiot who hears about cryptos someday and plans to buy it the next moment.
- Give yourself sometime and learn how things work.Lean about wallets, exchanges, transactions and maybe watch a couple of starter videos on youtube before blindly jumping into investment.
- The less time you spend in understand the basics, the more you will suffer in the long run.

I'm willing to invest into crytocurrencies but not sure how to start ones I'm ready to dive in. Shall I go through Bittrex, Coinbase or find a legit seller here in BTCtalk? What would be your advise?

It's probably easier to go through coinbase, But they tack on at least $20 over the current trading price. So I would recommend you sign up at Bitstamp. The fees are 0.25% per trade, with no fee for deposit or withdrawl and you can use a credit card, crypto or bank transfer. Bitstamp is also fully regulated with offices in the U.S. and Luxemborg and place 90% of their holdings in cold storage.

Though there are legit sellers here but I do buy my coins from coinbase. You get the best price if you buy from coinbase and you will not have problems of be scam as we all know coinbase as a long-term trusted site.
I think bittrex or coinbase are more secure but you can still get it through peer to peer but must be from an escrow or consider kucoin, livecoin, binance and so on
Yes I also trade with livecoin some time last year and there are very good and user friendly. However, I don't know much about kucoin and I have never use binance.

Trying to make some transaction here is not a good option so if you want a p2p transaction i think you should find a seller in your place rather than buying through internet. I think bittrex is now open for registration but there's an application first that must be submitted though there's a lot of good exchange with high trading volume like binance, poliniex, hitbtc, kucoin, livecoin. you could search more from google since they are top exchanges.
