hello everyone.

i was just wondering what are my options for HD wallet recovery if for some reason mycelium isn't available as an app download in the future?
not very likely perhaps, but i would feel more confident knowing i can restore my wallet in some other app as an emergency measure.

btw, to the mycelium developers, i really enjoy your app a lot. find it most user-friendly for a newb like myself.
cheers.

i am pretty certain multibit HD is fully compatible with the mycelium seeds, and it uses a completely different implementation stack and infrastructure. so you will be able to use it, even if mycelium servers completely vanish.

using the trezor together with mytrezor.com is another option with another distinct stack.

MultiBit HD isn't (yet) compatible with Mycelium seeds, but it will be once MultiBit HD Beta 8 is released.

Another option (which works today) is exporting an account's master private key (its "xprv"), which can then be imported into Electrum 2.x (just paste it into the Restore Wallet dialog). The two downsides here are that the seed is not compatible with Electrum (so you'll need to keep your xprv somewhere safe as a backup), and that you'd need to export each Mycelium account individually to a separate Electrum wallet file (if you have more than one account set up, that is).

(More details on wallet interoperability is available here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1000544.0)

You don't even need Mycelium to export xpriv from seed. You can use https://dcpos.github.io/bip39/

That is correct.
Just keep in mind that you need to select 'Mycelium' or manually put in m44 for the der path.
Also, keep in mind the keys shown have a diff path on the android version vs iOS version although the resultant addresses are the same.

You can also use pycoin to export those addresses/private keys as well.

You didn't check, did you? Actually, 'Mycelium' doesn't work. It give the xprv of receiving (external) adresses, and Electrum expects more "general" xprv, to generate both receiving and change (internal) addresses. You need to use "BIP32" and give the m/44'/0'/0' (instead of m/44'/0'/0'/0 used in Mycelium tab) derivation path. It works with first Mycelium HD Account. I didn't check, but next should be like m/44'/0'/1', m/44'/0'/2' and so on.

Actually, I did check.  I know all about it.  In fact, I have a thread on the issues with regards to the diff paths noted in that thread regarding the difference between the android and iOS versions along with the xpub keys.

bip32 site matches the path and keys shown on the iOS version, but not the android version.

Mycelium Wallet (Android) 2.3 is out. Trezor support, and lots of new HD features!

Mycelium Wallet 2.3 is out of beta (still requires Android OS vs 4 or above). It includes the following new features and changes:

* Trezor support (cold-spending and Trezor-based accounts), from the Cold Storage spending menu.
*  You can now require a PIN to open the wallet (we had many requests for this)
* Support for Cold Storage spending from masterseed keys
* Support for importing xPriv/xPub keys
* Scanning xPub keys for receiving and balance check
* Paper wallet cold-spending now supports xPriv keys
* Number of confirmations is now shown in transaction details (we had requests to make this info some how available again)
* Updated translations (Thanks to all our translators!)

Neat thing about Masterseed Cold Storage spending (such as ones created by our Mycelium Entropy) is that it asks you for an optional password, and each password creates a completely different chain of keys. So you have have 0BTC in plain xPriv key, $1 worth in a generic password chain, and your actual money in a more secure password version, for plausible deniability, and just carry a copy of this key in your pocket for spending on the go, without having the key in your wallet.

As mentioned, Trezor support is accessible from Cold Storage option in the pop-up menu. Ledger support is in development now too. Next up will be adding some more privacy features, among other things.

I guess you can't use it to initialize a new Trezor or if you want to use multisig, right?

Hi!

I tried new 2.3 version on Android. I was expecting finally a better UI, its not on par with iOS version!

But the main problem is that I can't get another private key for the HD account. The "Add Key" button goes into "Add HD account / external priv. key" page.

iOS is ahead on design, but Android is ahead on features ☺
We have a UI rework on the list - but there is only so much time, and so far we prioritize on features.

HD accounts generate private keys automatically, you get a new one whenever you receive money (you get a new receiving address) or you send money (you get a new change address).

Right - that's not possible (yet).
