hi

I know 2fa has been discussed before but I still don't know why it wasn't implemented

is there anything bad about just buying this ($20) and installing it?
https://www.smfpacks.com/2fa/
or something similar?

why is not installed? is it something bad?

Probably because they're working on a new forum software?
Anyway, not everyone would use 2FA and even if you enforce everyone to use it, issues like unable to login due to 2FA would become the new problem.

This is something that has been asked a lot of times since years.

https://www.google.com/search?biw=1455&bih=699&ei=-mtyWu3qFIveUaXnm8gL&q=site%3Abitcointalk.org+2fa+meta&oq=site%3Abitcointalk.org+2fa+meta&gs_l=psy-ab.3...4227.8335.0.9636.4.4.0.0.0.0.123.323.3j1.4.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..0.0.0....0.IzdGwu5Qnlc

but at this time it was something difficult to add (don't know now)

There was a bounty created to make a 2FA sys. years back https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=364307.0

it's supposed to be in the new forum software https://github.com/slickage/epochtalk/blob/master/app/templates/login.html
but i don't know if we will see a day this software Roll Eyes

it doesn't have to be mandatory. but users who are worried about security would have that option

"issues like unable to login due to 2FA would become the new problem"
are you saying it's better to have hacked account and hackers to scam with those accounts rather than a few users who don't know how to use 2fa to complain?

I don't see why but maybe it was difficult to implement that in the past
and I understand it's not worth putting a lot of effort developing something if the new version of the forum is about to be ready

but $15 or $20 and a few clicks?! it's already done, ready to be easily installed
it's like if someone already completed that bounty but charged $20 instead of 2 btc
it is worth even if it lasts 1 month before the next forum version! and I doubt it will last less than several months or more than 1 year

is there any reason why $15 or $20 shouldn't be spent to add 2-factor authentication to this forum?

yes I know. it's being discussed since 4 years ago here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=167.0
I don't think it will be ready this year or even the next one

my question remains, I don't see a reason why it's not worth spending $15 or $20 to implement 2fa on this current forum

It's probably just that little bit of money, plus a LOT OF PROGRAMMING TIME.

Theymos has modded this forum considerably.  That's why it's such an old version of SMF - he can't upgrade it anymore.

A "simple" thing like 2FA could break a dozen mods he has made....

that makes sense if that's the case. but has that been tested?
adding 2fa would be very important. it's definitely worth trying the plugin and checking if it really breaks something. there must be a dev/test installation of the forum I guess

2FA would be a blessing for us all.
It should have top priority.
