Coming after we start to push out Cairnsmore4 mega systems to customers is this little baby hashing unit. It is for the little guy. No prices and specifications yet and we won't annouce those until we are ready to take orders which is probably going to be late October.

Also watching, Problem is, there is alot of competition, This would at least have to match 0.15BTC per 336MHs over 500mA.

Speaking of CM4s do you have any updated specs? Price, delivery times etc?

Yohan could you tell more about Cairnsmore4? Deadline for Bitburner Fury October 1st week shipment is today, I would rather order from Enterpoint if I could get some more information.

Cairnsmore4 firmware development and testing is still in progress and we won't announce prices, specs, or timescales etc. until we are actually ready to ship this product in a customer usable form. If are at the point of buying other Bitfury based kit I would carry on with your plans until we have a much more solid offer for customers.

Thanks Yohan! If the price is right I'll be definitely buying Enterpoint hardware too when it is available.

Wow, I wish we were hearing this from a few more suppliers Grin. You guys should be giving some of the other manufacturers some tips on how to run a respectable business. Good luck with the projects!

Is there any possibility of you assembling your USB sticks from customer chips btw, as we've a few on order?

We get asked this often and it is sometime possible to do but it does cause us an admin headache as firstly it is outside our components quality process which usually means disclaimers and warranty limitations on anything manufactured. It is also something we won't do small scale because of the admin involved. Until we have a working design it also something we would not want to get into as immediately customers tend to have delivery time expectations. That is something we currently don't want to have to promise as it impacts our other business activities.

Hi Yohan, OK that makes sense. We won't have enough I think to make it worth while, but I thought that I would ask.

with avalon doing their modules at 4bitcoin for 30Ghash and i would expect a 5Ghash stick to be under 0.6BTC to be competitive

Given they're using a single chip per usb key I don't think taht each one will exceed 2.5 - 3 GH at best.

reading the writing on the chips it says 5Ghash....

That's the max theoretical speed of the chip.

well if they do truly only output 2.5Ghash average then that puts a competitive price point of 0.3BTC as a maximum then...

Yes they have a bitfury chip.
Also in regards to the speed of the chip it won't reach 5gh as it has design errors. The 5gh was the theoretical speed based on a 100% working chip.

thats like intel advertising a 3.6Ghz CPU (which everyone knows can be overclocked up higher) but in reality its only manages 1.83Ghz CPU once you put it into a motherboard. and intel replying, thats what customers should expect...

and now i tooo have bit..fury.
by that i mean, darn these bitcoin industry manufacturers... they say one thing, and mean another lol..

no offence to enterpoint as i know its not their chips...

.. still atleast these sticks are gonna be alot better then 333mhash

.. still atleast these sticks are gonna be alot better then 333mhash

To be fair to him I don't think bitfury has ever advertised these as 5GH/s chips. It just happens to be written on the package, which presumably came before the testing phase that discovered their actual performance. It is a bit misleading, I admit, but I think **most** manufacturers are being honest about what they will actually achieve.

Bitcoin can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards.

thats like intel advertising a 3.6Ghz CPU (which everyone knows can be overclocked up higher) but in reality its only manages 1.83Ghz CPU once you put it into a motherboard. and intel replying, thats what customers should expect...

and now i tooo have bit..fury.
by that i mean, darn these bitcoin industry manufacturers... they say one thing, and mean another lol..

no offence to enterpoint as i know its not their chips...

.. still atleast these sticks are gonna be alot better then 333mhash

It is a bit misleading, I admit, but I think **most** manufacturers are being honest about what they will actually achieve.

5GH/s was the idealogical speed of the chips when they went to fab, but in the real-world, the speed can not reach that. This was discovered and made clear as quickly as one would reasonably expect. The fact is thatr the chips are capable of:
no heatsinks, air cooling: 1.5-2GH/s
small heatsinks and air cooling 2.2-2.7GH/s
large cooling apparatus: ~3.4GH/s on a single chip test board.

its feasible that 4GH/s might be achieved by water cooling or other similar extreme cooling methods, but it has not been pushed that far. power efficiency at that speed would likely approach/pass 2w/GH

reading the writing on the chips it says 5Ghash....

That's the max theoretical speed of the chip.

See here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=228677.0

spiccioli

It is actually a bit different:

Performance: 3.3 GH/s _rated performance_, about 7 GH/s maximum
Power consumption: 1 W at _rated_ performance @ 0.6 V, 6 W _maximum_ performance @ 1.0 V.

Also, majority of the reports are for the chips doing 2.5-2.7GH/s. This however is largely dependent on the power supply. What I've learned is that chips are extremely picky about it and the more stable (less ripples) voltage the more the hashes.
There were posts of people using supercaps (like 4.7F) to power the chip and managed to squeeze out 3.3-3.4GH/s which sort of matches Bitfury's initial designs.
Also, at some point he mentioned that there was a bug in the crystal and because of that the 7GH/s wasn't possible.

Anyways - you guys got an interesting idea and I wish you best of luck with that design! Let me know if you have any questions about the chip - I learned a lot about it while doing the NanoFury design Smiley

maybe u dont know that but cpu use different clocks. You are probably talking about low power clock when its in idle mode so it can be 1.83Ghz or something. If intel advertising 3.6Ghz cpu its really working at 3.6Ghz.. or now with turbo even more

Are these going to be a classic hurry up and wait buy?  I got stuck with a 20.4 btc buy on blue fury sticks.  Seller gave an agreed refund to me (17 BTC since btc went up I did not lose usd on the deal.), but that group buy is dead in the water.  These super sticks have many Aiscminer stick owners crying for them.  I could sell 500 on ebay .  I sold about 600 AM sticks on ebay.  So if these are sold in hand I would buy some.  If they are preorder I am not interested.  The only reason AM sticks sold well was  they were in hand.

agreed it was meant as an example.. basically.. the advertising on the box doesnt correspond to actual use..

but anyway, i love that yohan and his company are pretty much the first 'industry' into bitcoin that from wages (yohan himself taking bitcoin), the factory, the shipping, are all able to be done within bitcoins.(because its all done at enterpoint). i do find enterpoint/yohan a great addition to the community. just knit picking the chip supplier (bitfury) for not making new batches of chips with a more accurate speed etched into the chip.

that being said.. going back to the pricepoint...
i can get a avalon 60Ghash for 6btc so thats 0.25btc per 2.5Ghash, so these new bitfury usb sticks better be competitve

Even Intel gets it wrong, their first batch of Pentiums couldn't even divide floating-points properly. They still shoved them out the door to the market!
