I'm a bored retired software engineer looking for something interesting to fill my twilight years.
After perusing all the various open source software projects available on the Internets, I decided Bitcoin was the most interesting, and the most likely to cause disruptive change to the world as we know it.

Same here. About 2 months ago, max, I either caught a glimpse of the word Bitcoin on Google News or saw a link/article on some website. I Google Bitcoin, and for the next two days I read my ass off before becoming hooked and a believer. With the exception of a couple posts on a poker forum, I've never engulfed myself in this type of medium before, although I've read my fair share of posts covering a myriad of topics. I'm a Twitter guy, not doing much on Facebook and nothing with MySpace, although I'm exploring Google+. I was 16 years old when I caught my first chicken and... Oops! Wrong forum. (I hope you folks enjoy my humorous posts as well as the ones that add value to this fine community--excluding those MF'in TROLLS)

A friend of mine told me about it, I spent a good 1 week solid (not sleeping till 4am) reading up and researching bitcoin, from the forum to the wiki. It's kind of taken over my life since then

A coworker sent an email regarding Bitcoin to everyone in the office month and a half ago. The market was around $7.00.

i saw a thread in a forum about some individuals that got busted by the police for Bitcoin mining. It was a mistake, the police thought they were growing pot.

I read the infamous "Silk Road" article on Gizmodo. Not so interested in the drugs, but the BTC part struck me as interesting.

It's kind of taken over my life since then ^ This Happened for me in early May. Would that it were a couple months prior, but how fortunate that it was not a couple months later!

Wow I'm glad I'm not the only one who turned into full bitcoin addict after hearing about it.
I found out about it from someones paper that blew on the floor in a coffee shop in new orleans. never really registered. Then someone posted about it on Above Top Secret. It got a negative response, but not from me. Been hooked ever since.

Now this is a story all about how my life got twisted upside down and id like to take a minute just sit right there ill tell you how i became a creator of a currency called Bitcoin
In west Japan born and raised on the playground my momma said most of my days chilling out, maxing and relaxing all cool and all mining some hashes outside of school when a couple of bankers they were up to no good started printing fiat in our neighborhood i got in one little bubble and my mom got scared she said your moving your fiat in to bitcoins
i whisted for a server and when it came near the license plate said MtGox and had bugs in the server if anything i could say that this server was rare but i thought nah, forget it yo trade some coin!
i-pulled- up tp a exchange about seven or eight i yelled to the Gox yo home, hack you later looked at my kingdom i was finally there to sit on my throne as the prince of Bitcoin

I was searching for a way to exchange my cpu cycles into money.. something like fold@home and other BOINC projects. firs i hit the www.cpushare.com which was a good idea until it got closed for legla issue and i guess most of you here did not even hear about it. then from a rented server broweser (data center in uk) i searched again and i hit bitcoin (i do not remember articles or the forum). The funny this is that i wasted like 100 btc in the first 2 months .. playing with it. (mostly of lost wallet files) as i did not think it will actually have any value back that day.

Heard about it on the Hive45 podcast in mid-late may. Did some tireless reading. Bought in at $29.50 (damn, now i could get almost triple the coins!)
Back in November/December I asked on the finance stackexchange if anyone knew of any online monetary systems, and unfortunately no one there knew of bitcoin yet.
