Mainnet for the second half of September

The team at Republic Protocol is happy to share a few smaller development updates in preparation for Mainnet Beta. Some of these features have come directly from testing and testnet feedback, so once again we appreciate all that have participated so far in helping shape the development!

First and foremost, more gas optimizations are being deployed this week that will lower the cost of matching orders resulting in higher rewards for Darknodes and will lower the minimum order volume. Our estimates suggest that the updates will give between a 4-10x increase in savings on gas fees.

An auto-updater has now been added to the Darknodes. This allows you to set up your Darknode and not worry about manually updating through the CLI, ensuring you have the latest bug fixes and security updates, all done automatically. We want to provide the best possible user experience, and this is a great step in that direction. In addition to a better user experience, it will also provide greater overall network security and performance.

Accidentally sent funds to your Darknode? Fear no longer, refund commands in the Darknode CLI have been added to allow operators to retrieve funds that are accidentally sent to the Darknode. A common problem that has been found in testing is that some people are confusing Darknode address and sending funds to it, for example when trying to submit their bond - instead of interacting with the smart contract. Again, we want to provide the best possible user experience, and this addition helps prevent the worst case scenario by providing fund retrievability.

Last but not least, our Golang Software Development Kit is undergoing final testing before deployment which will enable support for trading bots and automated trading software operate on RenEx through an HTTP API. These tools are a crucial component for enabling those to support liquidity on RenEx, and as always we will be looking forward to hearing feedback once this is released.

Testnet Timeline Note: Applications for running a Testnet Darknode have now closed. Applications that are already pending will continue to be approved throughout the week as per the indicated timeline.

New Testnet tokens are needed to continue participation in Testnet. You have until the end of the week to try out running a Testnet Darknodes. After this, Testnet Darknodes will be run only by the Republic Protocol team.

Republic Protocol (REN) is similar to 0x (ZRX) in the sense that it is not an actual exchange, but a protocol that entrepreneurs can use to build exchanges, in this case, dark pools. Dark pools are a type of alternative trading system that give investors the opportunity to place orders and make trades without publicly revealing their intentions during the search for a buyer or seller.

The primary advantage of dark pool trading is that institutional investors making large trades can do so without exposure while finding buyers and sellers. This prevents heavy price devaluation which would otherwise occur. If it were public knowledge, for example, that an investment bank was trying to sell 500,000 shares of a security, the security would almost certainly have decreased in value by the time the bank found buyers for all of their shares. Devaluation has become an increasingly likely risk, and electronic trading platforms are causing prices to respond much more quickly to market pressures. If the new data is reported only after the trade has been executed, however, the news has much less of an impact on the market.

This thread does not make justice of the awesomeness of the project. The value proposition here is huge.
The mainnet is in beta right now, the deploying of darknode is stricked to the only team. However it will be opened soon to anyone willing to bond 100K REN per node.
It could represent a good revenue stream, people should definetely dig into this project.
