Question: What is your feedback on merit system.
Happy - since it is forcing me to think about quality than quantity.
Sad - It is harder for me now to rank up
Not happy, nor sad - I am already a high ranked member so having merit do not make any change for me
Not happy, nor sad - I am a lower ranked member and I am here just to hang-up with the community. Merit actually does not mean anything to me.
Sorry - my feedback of choice is not listed here. I am leaving my feedback on the comment section
[User's choice 1] Happy and sad - Happy coz shit posters are not just posting for rank up and Sad coz  not all the good posts are not merited, limited merit source etc.

Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

It's happening most of the time. We tend to believe that someone with high reputation is going to produce good contents. I am not denying the fact that they can not but not in all case.

Look, merit system is doing exactly that it was intended to do. Now we see people are not posting shits that much rather people are thinking before posting anything. So it's not the Merit system we should blame for that. It's the application level to be blamed. We need to improvise it. Some tweaking can perfect the current merit system.

Just having a wild thought, (don't count)...

How about disable showing the rank for the members for a week or two on the forum. Since no one can see what is your rank so whenever someone will send any sMerits to someone else then they are actually sending it because of the true value. (I know it's really a wild thinking LOL )

Be happy be at peace. Looking forward to BTC at $1M

The merit system is great and all, it defiently helped with reducing the shitposting and spam threads, but the merit requiremnts to rank up is where the problem lies, in the low ranks it is understandable but at a certain point where you need 250 and 500 merits to rank up it is too much, the sense of progress that poeople had is practiculy gone, the thing that keeps you coming back to post and increase your activity has vanished, at a certain point you feel like you are stuck and have zero motivation because even if you write good quality pots no one is going to take the time and read it because you are nobudy.

That's not quite true. Don't try to chase merits, write posts just for merit and forcing yourself. They'll always turn out really forced and it's noticeable. Stick to topics you know and don't expect to get merits on every other post, you're not nullius. Just compare his posts and the majority of other peoples posts.

It's not work or mandatory to earn a certain amount of merits in a month, relax.

I don't think you people understand ranks as a concept. Think of it like this: You're doing your thing, helping newbies out, giving advice on wallets and exchanges, advice on alt-coin investing,etc... and over time, you'll get better at any specific field and therefore write more helpful, meritable posts. Ranks are there to signify your improvement and if you're not improving, you'll not rank up. Pretty simple.

This thread actually seems like an attempt to get merit, which is actually a common theme around the meta section, here's how it goes;

1. Make a thread relating to merit to inspire discussion
2. Pretend you're contributing something to the community
3. Receive merits as planned
4. Huh
5. Profit

Pretty much every thread and posts are an attempt to get merit.  Grin

Also, that should probably be something like:

> Make a thread relating to merit to inspire discussion
> Pretend you're contributing something to the community
> Huh?
> Profit

But seriously, the only thing I see is the blurred line of what makes a constructive or what makes it a quality post overall. There should be a little more freedom considering giving merit. if you look at the most recent topics, a good number of them as [ANN] threads.

Also, one more thing, there could maybe be a drop menu when you click on merit where you can select the amount (example: 1,2,3,5,10) or click on + if you think it deserves more.
My argument for this is: Since the merit is directly involved in ranking up, then it should appear more available and more practical to give.

It really is a good idea. Most of the time you might not have it in mind (sending merit) the way currently it's on the right corner with just a "+Merit" link.

It might be for the newbie restriction, I am not sure. You are really right on distributing merits fairly but I think for us human it's kind of impossible to make a decision without being biased. Merit system needs to be improvised so that it does not depend on human decision. Instead of we giving merit each others try to find out or develop a script that will scrape what you wrote then evaluate it then give you merit or whatever the point is for the quality of your writing. The funny thing is in this forum i guess most of the people do not even know what makes a good post. They have this picture that a good post should be a long essay  Tongue

I really do not like the idea of using a script for evaluating the posts made here. This is because users will start trying with different types of posts and figure out responses that are getting merits. They will just start making similar posts and this will make the system effective. This is like the Google algorithm for ranking websites. Different webmasters keep trying different link building strategies and then abuse it one they find the working option. This is why Google also does manual review of websites getting very high income with Google AdSense.

See, when the admin mentioned a quality post, he no where mentioned that it has to be an essay. Different members may have their own decisions regarding what is  a good quality post. For instance, suppose a member has asked that " how many sMerits will I get after receiving 10 merit points. " To the point answer to this question is 5 and there is no need to make a post in 5-6 lines for this. Most of the times rest of the content is not needed at all.

Regarding higher ranked members being treated differently, this is not true in as per my experience.

I choose happy and sad, happy that I saw the forum lessen the spammer and shit posters and now sad because I think it takes for me a long time before ranking up. Yeah, I noticed that some of higher ranks are not fair to newbies here of giving smerit, no fall offend them but mostly higher ranks are being arrogant to the newcomers.

Can I suggest that those higher ranks like Legendary and Hero member must have more smerit to send? Grin Grin
