Another newbie / lurker who just signed up today.

Have been following the Bitcoin universe for several months but so far my only involvement has been to buy some coins.

Work with a guy who has a miner on order from Butterfly Labs so I've been following them over the summer and have a pretty good sense of how crazy / frustrating / bad getting into mining is these days.

Still, I have some interest in mining and am considering the new Red Fury USB device.  Concerned about the pre-order risks but at their price point I figure I can't get hurt too bad.

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Howdy!  I'm in the same boat as you, I've been mining LTC for quite some time and thought it might be nice to add a few of the REDFury USBs that currently have a group buy going on.  I'm in for 6 but can't post there because I've never posted here before, we'll see how it goes... It's only money, right? Smiley

P.S.  Group Buy I was talking about: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=296301.0

Welcome! Smiley I've never mined either after being burned on a shady pre-order (not too badly since I got most of my money back). No more shady pre-orders for me. I wouldn't mind snaring a few block erupters, USB hub and fans just for kicks and to secure the network that tiny bit more - you can't expect RoI with that sort of kit. Maybe one could even solo mine with a gigahash or two and hope to get lucky, since in a pool you're only mining shrapnel with that kit anyway.

Welcome anyways Smiley

Thanks, that does seem to be the general opinion around here.  I know that a ROI is very far off, if possible at all, but I'm ok with that for now.  There's always resale at a loss, if it ever comes to that.  Grin

Don't pre-order. Huge gamble, so many scams.  Wink
