It should be pretty obvious that you will have access to your seed, which you can use to import your wallet into a different wallet (like Electrum).
I'm not so sure... With the current ledger setup, after the initial setup and confirmation, there isn't (as far as I know) a way to get the seed mnemonic to display on the device again.

I believe this is a "security feature" to prevent the seed from being extracted or stolen etc.

I doubt the new native desktop software will change this behaviour.

Regardless, the user should have written the seed down during setup (and possibly made a 2nd copy as backup), so they *should* have access to the seed mnemonic and, by extension, the private keys.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

you have to be able to see the seed somewhere to verify it after a restoration and the most secure place to view it is on the screen of the ledger. that's one thing the ledger had over the trezor until the latest version, no need to enter or view anything seed related anywhere other than the ledger itself.

even though odds are of course on your side, i was never too happy messing with a trezor's seed words on a computer.

You don't really have a way to get around writing it down because it asks you to confirm (some of?) your seed words directly after showing them to you, to check that you've written them down.

This was a case with previous firmware, now user is need to confirm all 24 words and not only 2-3 words what was the case before.I think this is a much better and safer way to ensure 100% correct backup of the seed.In any case, the best way to check the accuracy of the seed is to reset device and enter seed again(but before sending any coins).

Regarding desktop app, since Google Apps will not shut down before June 2018 we can expect to Ledger release desktop app before that.I just hope there will not be some bigger problems with app and that they are upgrade servers finally.

Has anybody been able to find an estimated release date on these new native applications? I'm pretty excited for them.

I have been searching, but no further news. I read rumors ADA and IOTA will be supported.

I read rumors ADA and IOTA will be supported.

Those aren't just rumors.
IOTA and ADA are both on ledgers roadmap.

They are working on an application for those coins. They are confirmed. But this still can take a few months until they are out.
As far as i know there is no submitted code being reviewed by ledger yet.
