Hi Guys,

I am very new to this, but have been reading up extensively. I have a 10 year old gaming PC with an AMD Radeon GPU. I am looking for a good ALT coin with very low MarketCap to mine. I was mining Ravencoin, but it doesn't support AMD so just using CPU it just isn't worth it as people with supported GPUs take all the coins. I was interested in Spectre and DeepOnion, but they seem to be proof of stake rather than proof of work cryptos. Am I right in thinking that means that I can't mine them? You just leave ones you have open to accrue interest, right? Anyway, can anyone recommend a ALT coin built on a promising Algo (preferably very private) that has a MarketCap below 100 million, doesn't allow ASIC,  and which I can mine with an ancient AMD Radeon GPU. Many thanks in advance!

You dont even mention which AMD GPU, but anything 10 years old is a definite NO GO on the mining aspect.

CPU would probably be best put ot use mining cryptonight algo. A 10 year old GPU will be VERY limited in what it can mine, if anything at all. Main problem would be finding a miner that even supports something like like a radeon 3850.

What is a "decent" Radeon GPU?

Maybe you should lookout for some NeoScrypt coins like Qbic or Innova but tbh, a 10 year old GPU will really don't make you happy.

10 years old pc? And mining? Would be ideal 9 years ago when it was possible to mine bitcoin with cpu, not for now.
Also you had to mention which GPU do you use but it's clear from your post that 10 years old any PC component won't work/worths for mining.
Also you can use website whattomine.com to understand which altcoin is currently best for GPU mining and for which GPU model (there are only new GPU models).

Cheers for your replies. I tried to setup the same PC for mining Bitcoin back in 2010, but gave up because I couldn't work it out. Doh! The CPU is AMD Athlon II X4 640 processor 3.00Ghz and the GPU is AMD Radeon HD 5570. I know I am not going to be able to mine much, that is why I want to mine one with a ultra low Market Cap. I know that means it is probably rubbish and goes to zero, but it's about learning and a bit of fun really. Is it possible to mine DeepOnion? Thanks!

Anything lower spec than hd 58xx is pretty pointless and the HD 5xxx and 6xxx series are pretty much only good for music coin, EXP or cryptonight.
I don't have any 5xxx cards still mining but I do have a couple of dinosaur rigs of HD 6990s they're horrid on power consumption though but can still make a tiny profit on cryptonight and EXP.

Just being curious, what could a HD7750 mine in your opinion ? I've removed it from my PC because for the moment I can mine with only 2 GPUs.

An other option is to donating your GPU computing power (and get MEDIC coins rewards) to support protein folding at home project of Stanford University through MEDIC Coin's folding at home initiative.
