But then again it still announced harshly against bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general. So I think any attempts of Iran to create a digital cryptocurrency would be scrutinized as to what the real intentions are.

Many countries are studying the sovereign digital currency based on blockchain.
This does not mean that they support cryptocurrency markets, however, which means they intend to limit the cryptocurrency markets.

The answer to that question can be seen clearly. It is a well known fact that government doesn't like anything that cannot be controlled, so they made a national cryptocurrency in order to harness blockchain technology without using decentralized cryptocurrencies. In short, they want to use a cryptocurrency that is not decentralized in order for them to have control over it.

There's a lot of countries even the bank itself which discriminates bitcoin plans to create their own cryptocurrency, guess what? controlled or centralized coins are the good term for that, calling it cryptocurrency but the coin itself is 51% government controlled? which does not accept nor recognize bitcoin or other altcoins out there? it is just more like an ordinary digital coin killing the very essence what does the blockchain means.

Isolated countries with sanctions on their back. Countries like Iran, Venezuela, Russia etc. It is a good move actually.
Crypto makes it possible to avoid sanctions and it is another proof that crypto is more usable than paper money.

But the whole point of the blockchain is that it is decentralised. As soon as you centralise it, you can attack it.

Even the decentralized blockchain still can get attack just like 51% attack.

But as far as I can see the fact after maduro was issuing its cryptocurrency and there are some countries are of same interest to doing the same thing just like maduro too.

But about the point why those countries are interested in issuing their own crypto due to the global trend.
