I'm running a Sapphire 5830 extreme and getting temps in the 90s. Is this normal? comparatively my 470 runs around 85-87 in the same case below the 5830. Idle the 5830 is around 58C, is this normal for this card? I already have the memory downclocked to 300mhz and have the core clocked at 900, although there was no temp change from 800mhz.

Any help would be appreciated.

Uh, no, that is not normal at all.

Reference design?
Fan speed?
Vcore?
TIM?
Ambients?

That's hotter than it ought to run.
First thing to do is pop the case side off and aim a house fan in the side.
If the 5830's idle and load temps go way down you need more case airflow.
If they don't, something else is up.

Thanks, this worked. I have it in a case with a mesh side instead of a plastic window. Looks like I'll be picking up a 200mm to go in that.

It's amazing how quickly temps drop with a well placed fan!  Personally, I try find the Radeons with the cogwheel-style fan because they seem to breathe through the top of the card more than the front and if the cards are stacked right next to each other it wont overheat itself (especially with how intense the mining apps are for usage).

Is the fan even on?! My 5830 never goes past 68'C . Is the room they are in have air conditioner? Those temps are way off. Also my card is OC'ed to 980mhz still well below 70'C

ok im going to DL it now thank you jedi-master!
edit:
just put trixx on my mining rig and i got about 960core/300mem. so far about 62c. so just wondering is it wise to keep the mem clock down and the core up? what should be the highest safe point the core should be at for 24/7 mining?

well i have mine set a 975/300. but it all depends cards can be different from others. the mining works best for this card at or around 300. you just have to test the waters
