Depends, its up to you and if you are willing to risk a bigger amount. Better go in safer trades with bigger amounts to try to grow your portfolio faster.

I want to start out trading altcoins but don't know where to start.  I don't have much money because I am a student.

Should I put my money in low cost coins such as NEM or should I put it in higher cost coins such as litecoin?
Should I spend $10 on each coin? $20?
Should I try a few ICOs?

Any help would be appreciated, thank you

I think if you want to start trading, for the first choic is ETH,
ETH's price is very stable and keep growing these days,
So, if you wanna do long term investment, $200 is very worth to invest on ETH

I think that $200 is a good amount to start trading. This amount is not so pity to lose, but it can bring you profit. A novice should not begin to trade in large amounts, because without experience he will lose any amount.

With $ 200, I think that you will be trading for a very long time, if you do not lose your deposit, because I believe that now the market has a lateral movement and as a rule traders do not work in the sideways movement of the market, they just go on vacation.

And I am almost sure that 200 dollars is a good sum of money for a newbie. before risking with bigger sums, it is better to understand the rules of the cryptomarket. Just invest in cheap but stable coins like Cardano.

I think the best option for you is to invest in a few not very expensive but promising ICOs.
