You kinda have to invest in one way or another, whether it be time or money. Decide which is best for you and go from there.
If you have money, even small amounts, you can try trading in the market and just accumulate more of whatever coins you invest in, even if it's small incremental amounts. Position trading or day trading, just buy low sell high, etc.
If you have time, you can invest your time into projects in many different ways. One of the main benefits of these forums is that they are a huge hub of activity for things called bounties. You can pick an avenue to invest your time in, be it telegram, twitter, facebook, etc. Lots of social media platforms work for this. You can also create content for a lot of them as well, many of the details are within each of the specific bounties that are available, and above all there are tons of them.
On top of this, you can get things called airdrops. Basically a company will want to promote their product and give a small amount of coins away to tons of free people, usually to get people talking about it. They're fairly common, check
https://airdropalert.com/ for projects, I'm sure there are also other places to find them.
There's another way as well, bitcoin faucets. There may be other faucets for other coins but bitcoin ones are fairly common. Now, it's not really a great way to earn bitcoins as you get something like fractions of a cent each time you tap the faucet, but you can use this to accumulate a tiny bit to maybe trade with just to get experience.
The downside of investing time is that a lot of these things wont pay off until a few months pass, but take your pick they're all decent avenues.
