Since this was supposed have been caused by something that sounds like such a "classic" configuration error that it gets a mention in the wikipedia article on PHP http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Php#Security

I'm kinda surprised that it isn't sorted out by now.

Please note, however, that it seems unlikely avatars were used to hack the forum.

Probably only got a month or so relative "lull" to sort stuff out before shit starts ramping up and going crazy again.

Seems strange that in addition to custom avatars, they also got rid of the 20 or so "generic" ones with Bitcoin logos, etc. Can theymos not trust himself not to exploit the site?  Wink

Is there a way to put in a request to have an avatar enabled? Or is it pretty much just wait? And if it is just wait, does anyone know how long the wait will be?

My anger against what is wrong in the Bitcoin community is productive:
Bitcointa.lk - Replace "Bitcointalk.org" with "Bitcointa.lk" in this url to see how this page looks like on a proper forum (Announcement Thread)

Still no way to update avatars..
Why not switch to Gravatar instead?
http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=854

That should take out the security risk and give people a way to change their avatar Cheesy
