In reading the new NPR report of more Silk Road arrests, this pops out:

Quote
Britain's National Crime Agency said it had seized millions of pounds (dollars) worth of bitcoins, the electronic currency used on the site, and the agency's director general, Keith Bristow, said in a statement that other online drug dealers should expect a knock on their door.

So looks like the UK is building it's own stash of seized Bitcoins. Wow. Governments may get their bitcoins without ever needing to buy them!

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

why start this topic when you just started another UK - SR related topic...

i have never used silk road and im getting a little pee'd that there are dozens of threads all about silk road...

this is like the financial times reporting about someone not paying their TV licence... it wouldn't happen, especially wouldn't require pages of chatter about it..

and yes the analogy is correct,

bitcoin talk - a place to talk about a currency
TV Licence - is paid for using the currency
story - getting arrested for an act that involves the currency use, where the currency itself is not the crime

I DO NOT TRADE OR ACT AS ESCROW ON THIS FORUM EVER.
Please do your own research & respect what is written here as both opinion & information gleaned from experience. many people replying with insults but no on-topic content substance, automatically are 'facepalmed' and yawned at

You mention 51%... but I don't think you know what you're talking about.

I haven't seen that reported anywhere else. It must be a misquote/lie/bullshit

All these Silk Road threads are getting a bit tedious now. Can we just have one that comments on the fallout as things progress.

Most gov inept, agree?

Inept lose BTC private keys.

Less BTC to go around.

Higher prices for the remaining BTC.

All good.

Our family was terrorized by Homeland Security.  Read all about it here:  http://www.jmwagner.com/ and http://www.burtw.com/  Any donations to help us recover from the $300,000 in legal fees and forced donations to the Federal Asset Forfeiture slush fund are greatly appreciated!

If Obama ever seizes Bitcoins, he will redistribute it to illegal aliens and the food stamp class.
