Seems like i'm one of the first to receive his new model T... So it's time to gloat, unbox and review Smiley

I haven't had the chance to move some of my funds from my old trezor to my new one, so i can't comment on the usability... However, i can comment on the following things:

  • satoshilabs was upfront and honest about the timeframe  being delayed. They kept me in the loop when they needed to extend their deadline
  • the package arrived 3 working days after being sent, the package was fine
  • the tamper-proof sticker over the usb-c port is really annoying... It took me a really long time to remove the glue, since i was affraid to use dissolvants
  • I had to install the new bridge. For some reason it didn't work on my home laptop (debian), so i ended up using my work laptop (windows 10). I'll figure out what went wrong on a later date, i just wanted to play with my new toy Smiley
  • I found it strange that i had to go to the beta wallet to initialise my new device
  • I found it strange to see a 12 word seed instead of a 24 word seed. Sure 128 bits is enough, but still, it felt odd
  • I have small fingers, the touchscreen works perfectly for me, i do doubt that somebody with big hands will feel the same tough..

Actually, I received my TREZOR T earlier Smiley TREZOR T now works with non-beta version of their wallet so it should be possible now to initialize the device using it. If you don't feel comfortable with only 12 word seed then you can generate a new seed on your old TREZOR and then restore it immediately on a new one. The device asks you whether your seed has 12, 18 or 24 words.

My package arrived in less than 24 hours after it was sent, probably because I currently live in a country which is close to the Czech Republic. The glue from the sticker was easy for me to peel off, I left it for 2 days before I tried doing it.

The device certainly looks nice in black and I really like the idea of having an LCD touch screen to input the seed / PIN's. I had a couple of questions about the model T:

1) Could you let me know what other utilities the LCD touch screen provides apart from seed / PIN entry? Does it allow navigating between wallets and display them on the LCD screen for example switching between Bitcoin wallet to an altcoin wallet to view the addresses and balances? Also is the LCD screen quick and responsive to touch and navigation?

2) Like the Ledger Nano S does the Trezor model T have some inbuilt security checks to check if the firmware has been tampered with apart from the tamper proof sealing? The only reason I'm asking this is to know if Trezor has something new in line to check this like the Ledger Nano S.

3) How's the quality of the outer plastic / shell as compared to the Trezor (previous model)? Do you notice any improvements when compared to it?

For everyone wanting to see more of the Trezor T in action, I recommend this 45 min long video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibPgfzd9zd8

Something I noticed is that you can see the whole address (not only the first and last characters) before confirming a transaction.

Trezor always had this:

Reflashing the TREZOR with evil firmware

Official TREZOR firmware is signed by the SatoshiLabs master key. Installing unofficial firmware on the TREZOR is possible, but doing so will wipe the device storage and TREZOR will show a warning every time it starts. Reprogramming the bootloader is impossible because all TREZORs ship with their secure programming fuse blown.

Beside PIN and the seed, you can also enter your passphrase. You are still able to choose whether you want to enter it on the device or on the "host". Unfortunately, you can't switch to another wallet and view its balance on the device's screen. Touchscreen is really responsive, it feel just like a smartphone. You can sometimes notice black lines on the screen but it seems that it is a software bug, there is an opened issue on the github.

I still haven't unpacked my TREZOR One, but I can tell that the overall build quality of TREZOR T is quite good. It feels really solid in a hand. I'm only worried about the SD card slot. It is difficult to insert a card into it and nothing covers the slot, it might cause some problems in extreme conditions.

Thanks for sharing the video. It had a real nice walkthrough of how to use the device and also the unboxing in a way. There was one information I wasn't able to get from the video which was about why the Trezor One doesn't support more cryptocurrency wallets as compared to the Trezor model T. I was wondering that with the release of the model T will there be more cryptocurrency wallet support added for the Trezor one as well with a firmware update or is there some sort of space limitation that prevent this from happening. If this is the case, maybe the business model is to release a new device to support more cryptocurrencies as time progresses?

Thanks for clarifying that, I'm planning to make my purchase from etherbit (authorized reseller) once the Trezor model T is back in stock. I wasn't able to notice an SD card slot on the device, maybe I need to take a closer look intot the specifications from their webpage now.

Edit: Just checked their blog post describing the SD card slot to be utilized for data encryption. I hope it also can possibly be used to expand storage space in order to possibly install some form of wallet apps (like ledger nano S) to add additional altcoins.

Actually, that's true. TREZOR T uses different software which is developed separately. Developers mentioned that it will be easier for them to implement new coins. Some of them will be backported to the older model.

I guess they won't have any in the stock for a long time. Expected official sale is somewhere in the Q2 2018. SD Card was said to be used for data encryption, storing labeling, Lightning Network channels information and some extra things needed for altcoins if there won't be enough space on the device.
