Been searching around the forum but haven't found anything with real "authority" on the subject of modifying the Bitcoin source.

Is everyone releasing these 'altcoins' by just downloading and tweaking the variables until they get something going?

I would appreciate some more in-depth reading on modifying the source.

Does anything like that exist? Huh

I've seen a bunch of "simple steps"...1...2...3...etc. but would prefer to get to the point of implementing my modifications.

Threads? Sites? Bueller Bueller?

Thanks

That was the idea of spending $50k on a computer science degree... I can save money not paying people to implement things for me.

What about joining up with other developers on an existing project, maybe a current alt coin that you believe has potential to grow beyond this sub-forum.

The market for new coins is excessivly saturated at the moment IMo, and I bet half of these copy cats are running around with no devs

Its all about what the people want...

This. Do your research and you will find good coins to support. As it stands right now, the community is spreading itself too thin.. if more people spent their time supporting good devs instead of creating new trash coins, maybe we could grow the market cap and usefulness of some alts. Create quality services for existing coins, don't spread the market too thin by making new coins.

I am joining up with another coin. I'm not trying to create my own. I just want to hit the ground running.

There are a few guides out there if you search. Here is one, there are more if you search.

https://andarazoroflove.org/cryptocurrency/altcoincreation/

If you go to github and download the source of various altcoins you can diff compare them and see what was changed and where, and hopefully with your CS degree you can understand why.
