Just tried Win 8.1 today and I can say it works nice so far. Will report in a few days when I find out how stable it is and if everything works.

Window 7 forever..

Windows 7 is the best OS Microsoft has done in recent years in my opinion.

8 is better, it's just that 7 was so "groundbreakingly solid" helping restore faith in Microsoft after horrible Vista.
And a huge wave of FUD (almost like a paid job) concerning metro UI above everything sure did not help.
It was so annoying to see tons of comments from peopl who did not even try that thing out yet.

Im not paid, I dont like the store concept apple and android have integrated as well. Windows 8 is big fail in my opinion

lol ghave u tried win 8?!?!  It uses less resources than XP in my oppinion. Only thing i dont like is Metro but you can add a normal start button

Window 8 is faster but I can't find the start button Smiley

Just download the plugin

I know of one, I wonder how many companies are upgrading to win7 rather than win 8? The one that I know who is going to 7, they are not doing because they don't like 8, but because the project started way before 8 was out and I guess they feel it would be too costly to change now.

It is easier to debug what software isnt multi threading correctly with the win7 tm

In order from most installs to least: Windows Server 2012/2008 R2, Debian Linux, Windows 7, 8 (with Start8), OSX in VMWare

On physical hardware:
Windows Server 2012 Datacenter on Server running Hyper-V
Windows 8 on Laptop running VMWare
Windows 7 on Tablet (soon to be upgraded to Win8)

people loved win 95, win 98, xp, and win 7.. what are u talking about? only 2000, vista and 8 have been hated. the problem is that microsoft is trying to force innovation, instead of looking at what people actually want and giving it to them. problem is, there really isn't that much more that the typical person wants from a PC o/s.

Title pretty much says it all. Which operating systems and versions/distros do you use?

I can answer this question for all forum users. As could be predicted, the most used here is Win7 x64.

Here's the OS part of the user agent for one day of web hits to this image, which is in some thread on this forum:

I'm actually writing from win 2000 now and I must say it was good for it's time. Quite stable, if you count out hive/registry overflow bug, which was never fixed and can kill your system regularly if you are unprepared. Also you forgot windows ME which was utter crap.

Windows 7 for now, its much much faster than Vista. But then security issues are with every version.
Windows 8 is such a waste, it looks like a Mobile OS running on a desktop, so useless.

Was running Lubuntu, but now running vanilla Ubuntu on development box and server.

When I occasionally need Windows 7, I launch it in VirtualBox.

Two years ago I ran three barebone miners on Mint.

I also have an Mac mini at my vacation home that I needed last year for iOS development. While there I usually launch Ubuntu, again from VirtualBox.
