Hey hopefully someone can help me I made a back up of a bit coin wallet in 2014 when I'm trying to restore the wallet I get the error. Wallet cannot be restored cannot read protobuf  (unreadable wallet) or base58 cannot read keys. I'm using the same app that I was back in 2014 and I only get this message when using a certain password all other passwords just say bad password.

If you are talking about this wallet: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.schildbach.wallet then I guess your file might be corrupted or something. You could however try to export private keys as then you will get access to your coins, follow the guide below:

Do you happen to have more backups by any chance? If you do might try those if this one is invalid for some reason.

Might be helpful if you could answer these questions:
  • Which wallet were you using?
  • Do you remember the version ?
  • Where did you store your wallet file (backup ? )  on your mobile / PC ?
  • What extension does your backup file have?

Is your only backup the backup file? Or do you have any further backups ?

If I remember correctly pywallet recovery tools also allow to recover keys from old android files.
Import the file from your android device to the PC and try working with that.
