just use a piece of tinfoil instead and hold it with your thumb while you plug it in. it's much easier.

So got it working, a orico A3H10 usb Hub and usb fan + new firmware.

Question the red light is blinking, is that because its getting accepted blocks for the pool?
And its running att 4.8 GH how can i crank it up?
And whats Best Intensity Settings?

There's no such thing as intensity for these devices or anything in current cgminer code. The only thing that will happen is they'll run slower if it runs too hot with the current cgminer code throttling it, but if you have a fan on it that should never happen.

BFG has some tweakable settings for the Bi*fury... hit M to manage the device, then highlight your Bi*Fury on the list.  From there you can change the "Oscillator bits" by hitting O.  Default is 54.  I tried other values but for mine, it seems to like the default value just fine.

Handles the clock speed of the chips.  Higher bits = potentially faster, but can reduce stability especially if you don't have good active cooling.

For me, any higher than the default caused stability issues.

Also in answer to your other questions above... the red blinky = share accepted.  That's a good thing

And don't worry about the Intensity settings since that's only for GPU and won't be applied to the Bi*fury.

Thanks, the fury is on 5.14 GH/s. it was just getting started when it was slower. I will see if i will try the Oscillator.

OMG SUCCESS ON MAC! 4.8 Gh/s! I'm so excited  

Ok, here's what you need to do. CScape it wouldn't hurt if you throw jedimstr and me some thanks (cough another bifury cough) for debugging this for you and your mac users. 

To update firmware on Mac:
1. short the jumpers on your bi•fury and plug it in
2. Close all finder windows (just to be safe)
3. Open terminal, cd /Volumes/CRP\ DISABLD/
4. rm firmware.bin
5. curl -R -O --ssl http://c-scape.nl/bi-fury/firmware.bin (this downloads the firmware and leaves the modified date intact)
6. type diskutil list and note which disk# is used by CRP DISABLD, let's call this N (as in "diskN")
7. diskutil unmountDisk /dev/diskN where N is that # you just recorded
8. unplug and plug back in. The light will turn on then off again

To get it running in cgminer now:
1. sudo cgminer -o yourpool -u username -p pass — that's all, and thanks jedimstr for the sudo tip!

Here's why downloading firmware on a mac and dragging it to the drive doesn't work:

Mac OS X / Chrome download does two things that mess with the file:
1. Mac OS X adds extended attributes (xattr list firmware.bin) to the file, one of which is a quarantine check.
2. Mac OS X modifies the date of the file (I'm not sure if this messes with it, but everything seems to go smoothly when I adjust for this with -R in curl)

What was happening was that the device didn't like this file and would overwrite it with its default firmware.bin, throwing us in a loop.

After many attempts and multiple EMails with support, I was finally able to update my defective device with the latest firmware.
Unfortunately, it did not change a thing - my BiFury still sits at 0 GHashes/sec in all recent cgminer versions

I have a question about hardware errors. I have 3 BIF running under ubuntu / bfg 3.9 with 15 BEEs...
The hardware issues are droping the performance, here is an extract after running for 22 hours. Any ideas whats up? Couldn't be temperature and it is plugged into a 10 port USB 3.0 hub with 7 BEEs... Had the same data when they were in the same hub with 3 BEEs.

3.9 % is okay IMO, but 11% and 15% are too high? Using default settings (no changes to the Oscillator bits).

In my case i am very happy with my new bifury. It just arrive i have plugged to my system and recognized without any problem from the last version of cgminer. I am in europe and has very fast delivery with ups. I like to say gz to the team of bifure for the very good quality of the usb. Keep the good work guys

you personally promised me that it will be shipped today (7th), together with my last order #1048 + that you`ll send it express instead of UPS standard because it took so long.

well... this is the third time that I got an ups label that is still on "ready to ship" and as the last times: UPS standard ..
I talked to UPS and they told me that they havn´t received anything from you so far for this label..

How are you sure it isn't temperature? Mine is running >10º C less than that. Do you have any fans on the assembly? Before I put one on mine I had failures all the time.

So it is much cooler now but still the same difference in hardware failures (running 25 minutes now). Have 3 10 port usb 3.0 hubs and 1 bi*fury attached to every hub + 9 BEEs for the rest.

these are my 9 Bi-Fury USB miners in action. I'm only using USB 2.0 hubs and has been hashing very well from 4.6GH/s to 4.9GH/s  See at pics below.




at first I couldn't get them to work in either bfgminer or cgminer but finally realized that if I run cgminer first and hot plug them into the USB ports one by one then cgminer would recognize them as BitFury.  I don't mind what they are recognized as, as long as they work.  BTW, they are recognized by windows 7 in 'Devices & Printers' as 'Bi-Fury'.

Last update on my defective BiFury : I managed to fix it myself

Bad news :

Should you ever need support (RMA) from these guys.... Well forget it, they got your money and will apparently leave you in the cold.
Being very typical for the BTC world, not such a big surprise...
Just remember, once you got your hardware - you're on your own.

Today, I actually received the long-awaited (now useless) RMA details.
Better late than never, but after all the massive delays I'm better off using the BiFury for as long as works, rather than risk even more time of it gone RMA as it loses value every day.

So their support does exist - it's just painfully slow.

Good news :

Realizing their support (RMA) is basically non-existent, I took matters in my own hand and was successful (maybe this helps other people as well).

I used the old technique of "baking" the hardware, similar to what can be used to revive some defective Video cards and alike IF the cause of the malfunction is a suspected broken/"cold" solder point anywhere on the device.

I placed the BiFury onto a ceramic kitchen plate into a pre-heated oven and "baked" the entire device at a set 125deg Celsius over a time of 30 Minutes.

This procedure - from a metallurgic point of view - softens a proportion of the soldering compound used to mount and connect the IC's on the PCB.
In case of a broken electrical connection due to such weak/mircofractured solder points, exposure to reasonably high temperature (temporarily acceptable on structural design limits for the PCB or the contained components) over a limited period of time has a chance of closing again otherwise broken electrical interconnects anywhere on the PCB due to microfractures in the soldering compound.

After letting it cool down smoothly (don't actively cool it too quick, as this produces unwanted thermal stress), I placed it into my running cgminer setup and it worked immediately.

Although it's not a guarantee for years of trouble-free operation, it's better than a dead device in the trash (after all, the device will be virtually useless within about a year anyway).
Since I received absolutely 0 useful support from the seller and after a dozen of wasted Support EMails, fixing it myself was the only thing left to try.
