I tried to put 14 erupters on my xp machine and for some reason I could only get it to see 8 at most. A few others would show up in device manager but would have a bang and say that an identicle device was present. When I would unplug one to plug another in, I would in fact lose two.

I followed the instructions on installing the Zadig for xp and xp drivers. Any help appreciated.

Hey, did you mount them on a hub? You need to check the power, if you have 14 erupters, it's 14x2.5 watts and its 35watts. On 5volts its 7 Amperes so you might be very underpowered.

Try splitting them in 2 usb hubs of 7 each if you don't have external power supply to help your hub.

They were split across two Anker's 9's. They worked perfectly fine on my Win8 Machine, I wanted them off the desk and put them on my media machine in my media room, that's when the problems started.

I could get them to recognize some but after I put that +1 in, thing would start to go downhill. I would get bangs for Couldn't start device, Zadig would say failed install trying to driver, etc.

No idea.

HI, Just wanted to let  you know that I am also having the same situation. I was running 10 erupters on an Orico hub, using a stand alone pc with Vista and no issues. I switched out to a laptop with windows Xp, and Xp would only recognize 8 out of the 10. I looked at the conflicts in device manager, and one said that it couldn't load the drivers due to a duplicate device, and the second one was because the device wasn't working properly. So I switched back to the pc with Vista, and no issues with the erupters.

It's most likely with Xp itself, probably just needs to be updated so its current. At least that's my guess.

It is XP limitation. I had to upgrade to Windows 7 on the same PC and sam hub to get them to work. Had 20 and only 8 worked.

Now all 20 work.

Good thing it works, but I didn't know that XP only accepts 8 USB Erupters?

Yes it's a known issue in XP it doesn't manage duplicate devices well.  Switching to win7 corrected my issues as well because no amount of messing with XP corrected the issue.
