What's so special about this platform?
It seems popular in the world of cryptos, I think I've never seen anything else anyway.

Beside the fact, readers are reading on a clean interface without annoying ads, etc. then what? Is it just a matter to get a "Like" button (clap)?

I think atleast as of now, there is a lot less or almost no noise or spam. Only useful information. Hope it remains such for some time.

I think it's for a couple of reasons:

1. Exclusivity. Medium is like SteemIT, in that you have to get approved to join. So it's kind of like a "club" that weeds out spammers and low quality people.

2. It's decentralized. Medium isn't like other news sources where the most clickbait content is pushed up. Their articles are advertised by the number of claps received. To clap you have to be part of the exclusive club. Of course there's still a way to game this. But for the most part, it's a lot more decentralized and fairer.

3. It's a high-quality news site. So SteemIT shares 1 & 2 with Medium, but if you've ever read a typical SteemIT article, you'd know how crappy they are. My own post has better grammar and flow than some of those SteemIT articles that are insanely liked. It's understandable -- it's a crypto blog for anyone to write on with the incentive of coins for likes. So it attracts the coin-hungry masses who just want to pump out stuff for cents. You know, the Fiverr writers.

But on that note, Medium pays writers now for exclusive content in the paid subscription section. The pay is obviously higher than SteemIT's, so it also garners higher-quality articles.

But Medium is a well-established news site in other industries. Companies have been using Medium for advertising for a long time. There are top news stories from around the world that aren't related to crypto. When you include well-established industries into a news site, you usually get higher quality articles than a typical crypto blog. Not anything against crypto -- it's just that crypto is still a new field, (remember that less than 10 percent of the population knows about crypto) and your typical English major probably only heard the word "Bitcoin" in passing or never at all! So the good writers aren't even aware crypto exists -- much less are well-versed in it. Thus, crypto blogs are generally lower in quality due to there not being enough good writers who have dabbled in the field.

So Medium, being an all-around news site (not just crypto), has garnered a higher quality atmosphere than SteemIT, and this makes the site higher quality in general -- and that attracts crypto companies to it.

Companies want to launch their updates, press releases, inter alia on a news site that people respect. Rather than a tabloid-esque site like SteemIT.

4. Anyone can write for Medium. And this is the key to the rush that Medium gets from the crypto industry. Let's say you have a new ICO. Your company is probably new, but your coin is launching in like a month or two. You don't have time to establish yourself in mainstream media. You don't have time to play around with SEO to get your own site ranking so that your site's blog or news section will be seen in Google. If you don't have any kind of reputation in the news industry, you'll have to pay big bucks for press releases and whatnot, and although you could afford it, why would you when you could just use Medium?

Medium lets anyone contribute articles... for free. That means a company that's launching an ICO can simply sign up for Medium, wait a week to get approved, and start pumping out their press releases and news feeds. They'll flaunt their Medium articles on Twitter and other social media to garner claps. Once they get enough claps, they're suddenly on the front page of Medium, and also on the front page of Google (piggybacking off of Medium's SEO). <-- MAGIC. The magic kind of instant that crypto companies flock to!

And that's why crypto chooses Medium above other news sources. =)

Medium is very neat platform and readers/writers friendly. However, Medium is containing Crypto related articles especially ICOs. We have seen many banned and suspended account due to ICOs related articles.

I think that Medium is a platform that transmits seriousness. It is sober, simple and friendly. I think that for this reason many projects have chosen Medium as one of their official platforms to communicate with investors. This has made it be used as a reference platform to find truthful information, directly from the projects. I love it.

@Lovecove
Thank you for this clear and detailed explanation. I was going to say that the site is more useful for writing than for something else so. In this case I own several blogs so no use to go there. But finally, I think it's a good source for networking (?) I'll try to get into it next month.

A thing or 2 I didn't know:
We must be approved and Medium pays writers for exclusive content in the paid subscription section...

That seems like a contradiction in terms. You say Medium has crypto related articles and then you say many accounts get suspended due to ICOs articles.

And to tell you something, there are influencers, crypto projects, startups etc paying a service to get their articles posted on my Twitter account. Often it's a link from Medium and they don't have any problem it seems.

I've always wondered about the same thing. I understand only high quality posts are hosted over there and readers love it. But what do the writers get? Is there a way to monetize your medium articles as a writer? Seems like there aren't any ads based on the medium articles i've read. Maybe some people just like doing it for free but still..

Other people write articles of certain projects or ICOs as away of getting paid in bounties... if am not wrong articles from medium are accepted by most bounties so long as you have a large audience so in one way or the other certain people still get something from writing certain articles

Medium is pure shit, as guys have mentioned it started to ban for crypto related articles, wtf blocking in "decentrelized" network.

Steemit is something much greater, I wont promote it, just try it out.
