All folks know that Microsoft is centralized. Bitcoin as a community that values decentralization should help Linux by using it. The best for cold storage and other advantages and tools. Besides the added security.

Just a shout out!
Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

I'm not actually sure if we "help" Linux simply by just using it. By donating probably?

But yea I prefer Linux due to most viruses/malware are created to targeting devices that run Windows. Though unfortunately Linux is just not really for everyone, as Linux in my opinion isn't as easy-to-use as Windows. Not to mention that the common person is most likely used to either Windows or OSX.

Linux distros are centralized too though, with a central repository for software and updates lol. I agree with everything else though. Its biggest selling point is that you're much less likely to run into malware in the wild through careless activities. You almost never hear about keyloggers that can steal your seeds in Linux.

Though unfortunately Linux is just not really for everyone, as Linux in my opinion isn't as easy-to-use as Windows.

Windows was much more user friendly in the past, but recently, distros like Ubuntu have become really easy to use. They're easy to troubleshoot too, because just about every problem and its solution shows up with a quick Google search. The ease-of-use issue is more about users' familiarity with Windows than Linux's user friendliness in my opinion.

Ubuntu Persistence Live USBs also provide a really easy way to create a secure paper/air-gapped wallet, all with just a flash drive.

Windows 10/x64 runs on a Linux kernel already so the difference got smaller.
Beside this Poettering fucking around with the base system makes Linux less attractive every day and takes more and more freedom of choice away from you as user - just like Windows or MacOS does.

(I am running Linux on all my systems since more than 15yrs, but I plan to avoid it in the future as I heavily dislike dealing with systemd)

I was sent by a friend to a snapshot of information Microsoft accepted the BTC and BCH as a form of payment. But if you pay by BCH, you do not have to pay a fee, and if using BTC, you have to pay for each transaction. This can see as a move that Microsoft will support and select the BCH.

I believe in Linux over Microsoft because Linux is non-profit. However, both OS's are centralized, so don't fool yourself.

Linux's Ubuntu are good for creating cold wallets tho Smiley. You can't boot windows cleanly from a USB, but you can certainly boot Linux from a USB!!

I think the use of Linux or Microsoft depends on the need of each person, for example, if you want an operating system to chat and play is better, Microsoft, but if you are oriented towards a professional field, the best option is Linux. that gives you greater freedom to control all aspects of our operating system, in addition to offering greater security, with daily acutlaizaciones and cost is low thanks to its free software.

it has nothing to do with centralization, and i think OP used the wrong word here. it is about being Open Source and while Linux is open source, windows isn't. and that makes a big difference, and when you hear about how new version of windows has lots of backdoors and even privacy invaders installed on it already your trust in Microsoft vanishes.

There is a FOMO brewing...

The only things I need Windows for are Excel and TurboTax.

INB4 "Use Calc" and "Use Wine":
  • LibreOffice Calc does not support everything in Excel
  • Excel does not run under Wine
  • TurboTax does not run under Wine
  • My taxes are too complicated to use TurboTax online

If it weren't for these things I'd use Linux exclusively.

It has been so long since I owned a windows computer I don't know how to use it anymore. Linux is so much better that I can't imagine dealing with all the B.S. of windows.
Seriously, how do you windows users do it? I would take a hammer to my computer within a day, lol.

Of course Linux is much better and safer. But linux is hard to get used to when you get used to this system, then you no longer want to return to Microsoft.

Windows is becoming almost unusable, It is so bloated, and it sucks up bandwidth with its constant updates. Far worse though are the routines that Microsoft include in an attempt to control you. Cortana is a keyboard logger, and it sends everything you do off to Microsoft for storage and analysis.

If you can handle Linux, and it isn't that difficult these days, then you are much more secure in my opinion. It is also more efficient.

Note on purchasing a computer. Buying a Linux computer can be more expensive. This is because retailers and Microsoft put so many "free" trials and data mining applications on new computers, and they are paid for this. The best deals are often computers with Windows and all the other rubbish pre-installed. Then the first thing you do is to wipe the hard disk, and install Linux. That's really easy to do, and there are lots of guides to help you on the net.

Here's something else to consider.  I was using the Windows 10 box with MS Office and TurboTax to feed my weather station to the Weather Underground web site.  I needed it to stay online 24/7 to do this but Windows 10 will download and install updates and reboot even if I turn updates off.  Highly annoying.  I ended up using a Raspberry Pi with Linux as the weather server and it stays up for months at a time now.

Bottom line: if you need a server, use Linux not Windows home or pro editions.

Yeah, that's why I called it out lol. I personally don't even care about the open source vs. closed source software argument. Open source doesn't always mean safer, and closed source doesn't always mean there are backdoors.

It's a fact that Windows dominates the OS market share, it's a fact that it's far more economical for cybercriminals to target Windows users, so it just follows that it's less likely for hackers to target you if you're not using Windows. Quality of OS security aside, that alone should be enough reason for you to switch if you're handling sensitive matters such as crypto.

The fact of system involved to computer technology.the linux are operting system(OS) used to sysytem oriented. As a result, of all major operating systems, Microsoft Windows is the most likely to be the victim of viruses and malware. The Linux operating system has been around the microsoft windows and has managed to stay secure in the realm of widespread viruses, linux and mocrosoft for all these years. Sure, the argument of the Linux desktop not being as widely used is a factor as to why there are no viruses. My rebuttle is that the Linux operating system is open source and if there were a widespread Linux viruses either by ordinary people that use the operating system or by the distribution maintainers.

for most people it is because they are used to it. and mostly because they are forced to use Windows thanks to programs that don't run in Linux like what the above user said, or you will have a nightmare trying to make it work.
for example i was using a simulation program for my thesis which only had a Windows version. having double OS works but wanting to switch between the two constantly is tiresome Cheesy
