Author Topic: Avalon 741 keeps on restarting and no GHz  (Read 147 times)

Hello,

I have a big problem with the Avalon 741, one of the 6 pin molex port got burned, this is due to the PSU,  I would like to run the other hashboard but the Avalon keeps on restarting and there is no GHz on the monitor. I have a 750w PSU that i used and an 850w PSU but has the same problem. I know the PSU is not the problem because I can see the 2 green/yellow lights on the hashboard side.


Here is whats happenning, the Avalon led is red, the 2 hashboard lights are green/yellow, the ACU starts with red, then it will turn blue, then it will turn green then back to red. while changing colors, you can hear the fan starts revving up, then after a few seconds the fan will die down. it will do it all again if you leave it running, i checked the monitor and it will stay a 0 GHz.

Does anybody know how to fix this?

The CGMiner Status changes between the 2 images, you know it changes because of the loud noise of the fan.

The fan will be loud for a few seconds about 10 seconds then it will quiet down.

Okay, so based on your posts and the CGMiner API log,
  • PMU (power management unit) board is ok based on the CGMiner API log and green LED indicators.
  • AvalonMiner LED indicator goes red.
  • AUC3 converter LED indicator goes red.

Hash boards do not start hashing and all values are shown as zero.
But I find it hard to believe that both 2 of 4 hash boards you are powering are completely dead.
Based on the weird hash board values and what I've repaired earlier, I'm estimating that you have a faulty control board (MM board).

in log TA is number of chips it detects.  Yours shows only 44.  It should show 88.  I've restarted mine a few times and it came up with 66.  I've never gotten mine to hash full power with a 66 count.  I have to power up controller first, wait about 15-30 seconds.  then plug in power supplies to 741.  I'm running dual 750w server supplies.  

Did it ever hash at full power?  I know that I would have issues with junk power supplies before I upgraded to server spec ones.  

nvm.  I see that one of your boards is dead anyways.  would make sense.  I can't remember how boards are connected, but maybe you can swap good board with bad and see if controller will work on other port.  Just need to do some troubleshooting to figure out what piece isn't working.

What is the control board (MM Board), is that the one connected to the ACU or the one connected to the hashboard?

I opened up Avalon to get into the circuit board with the burnt molex connected to it, I also removed it with the advice of BadgerHobbs. I tested it again and still the same result ( 0 GHsav and the fan starting and stopping a few seconds)

One more advice by BadgerHobbs is to update the firmware, I will try it later.

HagssFIN is correct, the left side has a burned 6pin molex connector so I cannot connect a PSU.
Only the right side is running but no GHSav
