Yeah. If you wish to get airdrop you should go through verification process to exclude scammers from airdrop. But still it is a nice try to make mass adoption.

Registered and verified. December 01 I received a letter in the mail that I'm on the waiting list for xlm. Today 07 February - it's been almost 2.5 months - so nothing got!!! As for me, it's just a trap - the desire of Stellar developers to draw attention to their coin on fake news. 50$ for personal data, is it much?   
I think that they think very prospectively. In far future governments can put restrictions which will only let transfer crypto from wallet with KYC, sounds ridiculous but some banks in my country already blocks account involved with cryptocurrency.

I did mine today and received 500 XLM ($50) 10 minutes later. Swapped out for BTC and sent to my Trezor. Then I deleted the BlockChain app off of my phone...
