Serious discussion exists.Also, I don't exactly remember the last time there was actually an important discussion in areas that are heavily spammed (i.e. Bitcoin Discussion, Economics, Trading Discussion, Gambling, etc.)

You can still find some good stuff in Technical Discussion (and to a lesser extent, Technical Support) and Mining (thank god for -ck).

Bitcoin Discussion, Economics, and Speculation need to be cleaned in my opinion. The discussions in them should be maintained well and be held in the highest care.

Get reporting then. If we are talking about spammers then report them because that's the only way they are going to get cleaned up because there just isn't enough manpower to enforce the hundreds of spammers per section.

I would probably disagree with your original statement that this is an attack though. This has always happened it's just more exaggerated due to Bitcoin rising in popularity recently.

Seriously? The only "attack" there is is by people who either are very young and/or can't speak English very well and want to try earn as much money as they can from posting. This is of course a recipe for disaster and only gets worse when they start farming multiple accounts to maximise earnings. Why would people bother writing anything of substance or something that requires effort and thought when you only need to write a sentence or hit some sort of minimum character count to get paid? When you've got multiple accounts time is money so you'll just string out a sentence or two then move on to the next account and rinse and repeat. This is why the merit system was introduced so hopefully it will start to curb this sort of behaviour.

You can still Private Message each other though and to further enhance the security PGP is all over the place this nullius spam the community with great details of knowledge.

The information is still surviving in the depth of discord.

Where do paid signature spammers come into this? They belong to neither of those groups. There are probably very few trolls here who just do it for fun.

I think if signatures were removed you would notice a difference. If that ever happens this forum would probably become almost a utopia (or at least it would feel like it compared to the current climate).

We already know that disable signature or limit signature usage (far less character, no background/color) are effective solutions

Just making signatures less flashy won't really do anything. As long as signatures are there people will still get what they can for them.

Ok but what actually constitutes spam that should be reported. I tend to report if it's off-topic, a few meaningless words or so badly written I can't understand it. They are almost all from Brand New or Newbie accounts and most likely bots. But I don't report the typical signature spam. So example, I've just been to Bitcoin Discussions and the latest post is:

since in applying to the system MERIT, spammers increasingly busy making posts that are not important.
there is no benefit from their posting, they just chase Merit.
please to report to the moderator if you meet unnecessary and repeated garbage postings.

This attack is costing them nothing, there should be a cost, but man if anybody would ever listens to me? imagine 5000 unemployed people, they all have more than a few accounts. they only have one job. posting with 10 accounts and earn money.

Merit is a barrier for new accounts, we already have so many old accounts, they don't need merits. they don't care if people are annoyed. they are free to post and will never stop. there is only one solution: make them to pay tax. charge a fee per post for Jr, member, full member. if they are interested in Bitcoin, they should keep contributing and earn merits to rank up. if they want to earn money, they should pay a fee.

Recently it becomes popular to use the hashtag #Bitcointalk #Airdrop #Bounties in their Bio ... It's funny because they create the same garbage there on Twitter (and surely FB) I try to avoid them like the Aids, you can't imagine how my blocked list is huge

There is many types of spam in this forums but let me point out at the one that present 90%+ of it which is  account farmers for the sake of all kind of campaigns ( Signature , Twitter , Facebook etc .... ) . As people said above they are people that search for ways to make money , i see no wrong on that if the person using only one account and trying to post at least something that can people  understand ( I am probably on of them I some time searching for something that I can post and try my best to post something that add to the discussion or maybe ask a question on Ann thread that not asked before , maybe sometimes I fail but at least I am trying and I only have one account )   but we all know that it is not the case .

The Merit system is not doing the job it invented for , anyone can notice this , i just noticed on my local forums that people are giving Merit +17 +15 for just an Ann thread and guess what they return the favor by giving Merit for simply no reason for the same person that gave them , it is so obvious .

I said before in the Merit system thread that it will not work and we should just cut % from every Campaign  running ( Something like a fee to run campaign in this forums ) and hire Admins that all there job would be delete spam posts , they will get paid really good and the money will come from the main source of the problem ( Campaigns ) this would be  a fair solution .

I think the spammers are those who are trying to do the farming account. They try to create multiple accounts to follow sginature campaign. But now there are so many spammers who disappeared, they do not seem to be able to do the free as before because after the merit system then they have to think several times. With the merit this time we should admit that the spammers have been greatly reduced. So we are still in the process of progress towards a much better forum and certainly not a conspiracy on behalf of those who are meritorious in this forum !!

The first part was a joke on conspiracy theories, wasn't being serious. I thought people would notice the sarcasm (little hard to notice over text but I still tried to make it so over the top to be noticeable). 

Well economy still has 1 in 6 good threads, unlike bitcoin discussion, but still there's speculation board that has some nice topics that are worth the read for info unleast.
