Hey folks,

everytime I log in to the forum and want to reply to a topic I get the error: "The last posting from your IP was less than 360 seconds ago. Please try again later. " After waiting 360 seconds it works.

But my IP didn´t post something in the last 360 seconds.

Any help for me ? Thx !

The block chain is the main innovation of Bitcoin. It is the first distributed timestamping system.

Logging in counts as an action like posting, so it triggers it.

Ahhhh well...are you sure that this is a good idea ?

I can understand the posts per seconds limit, but including the login doesn´t seem so usefull (keeping in mind that the sessions length can be selected).

@OP

You should check threads before posting next time.... https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=312554 is only a few threads down in Meta.  The odds are if you're getting an error, someone else is getting it too and has already asked  Tongue.

Logging in is a "write" action to the database, just like posting in a thread or composing a PN. For the pause function as it is implemented these are virtually indistinguishable actions. While I imagine it would be possible to fine tune the pause function to ignore login events, the question is how much benefit would be produced in contrast to spending effort on this.

Gotta +1 on this.
Really really annoying.  Happens every time I want to login and make a quick post on a thread I'm following.  The worst bit is I then lose whatever I've just typed out, the message input doesn't get restored on a back button press, which I've noticed some forums to manage.   I do understand this is to protect the security of the forum from DOS etc, but this must be solvable surely.  Maybe the database needs two write flags a last_login_in flag and a last_post_flag in order to differentiate the two completely different actions.

I believe this restriction goes away once you spend some amount of time online.

EDIT: Just tried it and it is so. I made this post immediately after I logged in.

Yes it wouldn't require much work to display the typed message in the error page

Just get 15 activity, the time limit will then be somewhat like 75 seconds.
