Aside from crypto currency investment, for me one of the best investments that you can land on is real estate. 

We know how much risk doing on online business, crypto really profitable and can't be compared to others the way it works. I think stock exchange is one of the best alternative investments in the economy today. You can not count out real estates too as this is not an ordinary investment when we talk about realty.

You specified "today" in your question, OP, so I'd say the stock market--and the big bull market that we've been in now for about 10 years--would rank at the very top of my list.  You don't even have to be a good stock picker; just buy a decent index fund that tracks the Dow, S&P, or whatever index you like. 

But be careful, because interest rates are going to rise, which will mean an end to the cheap money that's been financing the big bull market.  Heh heh.  If you got into the stock market right now, you might get some gains and then we'd probably experience the crash of the century--and I'm not even joking.

Oddly enough, people are making a shit ton of money speculating in comic books because of all the superhero movies that have, and are scheduled to, come out.  First appearances of characters that appear in movies & television (like Firestorm in the Flash TV show) get hot, and people flip them like crazy.  Seriously.  And it seems like a fun hobby, too.

At the very bottom of my list of "alternative investments" would be gold & silver.  They've been beaten down badly in the last 7 years, and I don't have a lot of hope that their situation is going to get any better.  At one point I had some hope and was buying silver, but watching the silver market is like staring at the mirror watching your beard grow.  The market is dead and I don't think there's anything that's going to pump new life into it again.

If it's not the Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in the list of investment then I would go with the direct investment in businesses or through the stock markets. I am not a great fan of investing in gold or stable commodities because at a certain point, it becomes a dead investment and that makes me uncomfortable, especially in the cases of long term investments.

Yeah probably bitcoin is the best pick to invest in a longterm just hold and sell end of the year. If you want to pick some alternate coins try visit the coinmarketcap. Just choose from the TOP1 to 10. Those alts are really good to pick and you won't be worry for any losing money. But I suggest for you to pick Ethereum.

You can consider ICOs as well.  However, as there are a lot of ongoing ICOs, you have to be very wise in choosing what's good to invest in.  One tip is to consider projects that would address significant needs of our society today.  Always be particular in details by reading their whitepaper, do some background check on the developers and solicit wisdom from various reliable sources and personalities.
