I'm sure this isn't the right forum but I can't post anywhere else  Huh

Is anyone familiar with this problem?  Obviously this can't be right - I'm not mining I'm just trying to open the client to sync up the last few months of transactions but it's fully loading my CPUs (all cores, looks like).  Any recommended places to ask this question?

Yes it is verifying transactions as it syncs, so it does eat up the cpu, for a couple seconds, never interferes with any applications. I never had a problem where my mac over heating. I am running 10.8.5 as well.

But to fully load the CPU on a MacBook Pro?  And it wasn't doing it for a few seconds it was doing it non-stop as long as the application was open...

Yes it is verifying transactions, it is fine, I have a macbook pro as well. The fans speed that is what you are hearing it is perfectly fine. Otherwise use a SPV client, but this is normal, and you can still use other apps.
