It's an escape from reality where you can become the hero. Speaking from personal experience, I was addicted to videogames like league of legends for years. I liked to win and would break doors and keyboards when losing

They become addicted to this games because it's a form of escape for them in the reality world, on the stress that they experiencing and it's a form to express their passion and their feelings. It's there zone where they can show their braveness.
