Distributing a survey

Hello,
We are in the process of distributing a survey online to our target audience. My question to you guys is how this can be done? The natural first step was finding forums for those from this target audience and posting our survey there, but are there any alternate methods we could benefit from?

Do you have any budget for that? If yes, then you could use some help of advertising networks that can bring targeted traffic to your survey, or order some articles on the related websites describing the idea of your survey with call-to-action. Another option is to offer some compensation here on the forum for the survey submission. With no budget it can be pretty hard to motivate the audience.
