They are targeting scam ICO's and not bitcoin per se, so their moved is not attacking bitcoin or the whole crypto. They just wanted to weed out those project whose intention is to really take away from money of unsuspecting victims. So they joined, other social media giants such as Facebook and Google to at least 'cleanse' the system.

As for the effect, hard to say but if there will be an one, it will be temporary as we have seen when Facebook bans crypto ads, the market still flourished and we continue with our daily lives. It just put some pressure but it doesn't have enough weight to pull the price to significant levels, in my opinion.

I strongly agree. Bitcoin has little to do with all those ICO scams that flourish in the Internet. And Bitcoin itself isn't a competitor to Twitter, but many other projects and technologies are!

Exactly, Twitter, Google and Facebook bans crypto ads because they don't want their media to be used as part of the giant Ponzi scheme that is taking the world by storm. We all know that scammers uses their platform to spread their scammy ICO and accounts to spread this lies around. And that is the sad part of it, those legit projects has only few options or have to spend a lot of money to market their project because they can't used the big 3 anymore.

As for the Twitter CEO saying bitcoin could really be the single currency around the world, I'm not sure about it. We really don't know what the future brings, however, we can't really blame him for taking steps to stop scammers spreading their malicious intent in social media.

https://www.coindesk.com/twitter-ceo-jack-dorsey-bitcoin-will-be-the-worlds-single-currency/

I'm glad to hear people with strong companies and lots of money to invest are bullish on the future of BTC. However, this idiot ceo banned ICO/crypto adds on Twitter behind the likes of Fcbk and Google ad words in June. What the heck, is this not ironic or am I the only one that finds this crap hypocritical?

Just go through the interview taken with the Twitter CEO today. He has explained that none can stop the bitcoins growth in this world. This itself allows you to find the learn that companies not against bitcoin. It is all happening because of idiot stupid government buddy.

I personally takes this ad banning would be fine because there everyone here should come to this forum. No one will stop the crypto currency ads here and it always goes perfect bro.
It is just an act of irresponsibility that has made a lot of people to read strange meanings into everything. We all know how the ad space has been like and a lot of these same people keep complaining how they have ended up in phishing websites as a result of Google advert which obviously could have been averted and these same people are the ones complaining about the filtering of the ad space.

It is just a shame for some honestly. The social media guys obviously believe in blockchain technology and the fact that bitcoin is unstoppable and only those who want to panic unnecessary because of a decision made for some good reason can actually go ahead.

I don't think it's hypocritical in the slightest. Almost all crypto ads lead to sketchy junk. There's little to no merit in one single thing that advertises. If they want money then all they have to be is good enough and they'll show up organically in searches.

There are also no shortage of other avenues to gain exposure.
Yes, I am sure a lot of the social media platforms made that known. The reason why a lot of people have ended up in a phishing scam or general scam is all because of the ad space and all these things tell a lot on the perception of cryptocurrency as a whole. I feel they only did a favor anyway to enable the cryptocurrency space get a little bit of cleaning which starts from the ad space and that does not have anything to do with their trust in the future of bitcoin except some people who just prefer blowing FUD out of nothing.

It's not the advertisements that should be blamed why people fall for scams, but people themselves. At the end of the day, it's you that clicks on these links and take everything you read for granted, and all that due to your ignorance. I always get annoyed when people point at other things being the reason why they do this or that, while in reality it's only their ignorance. You click on vague links and get your system infected, you invest because they offer you 50% returns in 1 week, you type in your passwords and become a victim of phishing scams, etc. People should acknowledge that they themselves are the problem, and not the scams and schemes -- they only exist because of how stupid people are.

Good observation. Maybe not hypocritical but, shortsighted, and even sometimes strategic?

Showing my age here, but the early days of the internet, which was starting massive growth on the old bulletin board systems (circa 1995-1997), a certain gentleman by the name of Bill Gates, said the internet would go no where. He was joined by fellow tech guru, Charles Wang, who were wrong.

I personally believe sometimes it's strategic. I believe Jamie Dimon was a strategic move to try to slow the momentum until his team caught up so to speak.

First of all you can be rest assured that bitcoin will not become the worlds single currency. This is practically and juridically not possible. Despite of this, we need fiat and cryptos because the fiat money users mainly finance the state budget of countries.

Why? If twitter is invested in bitcoin they do not allow to promote competing coins to push bitcoin and make huge profits.

These are the conflicting statements we have been receiving from all the voices of authority
Conflicting ? What is so conflicting here if I ask ? Twitter banning ad space as well as Facebook and Google because of the shitty adverts that have led some people into losing their money or the fact that they declared bitcoin as the currency of future ?

I feel we over state things too much which is the reason why FUD is rampant in our community and we also read unnecessary meaning to things a lot as well. There was a huge load of reason for making sure anyone using the ad space must come as legit and that does not make them hypocritical.

I understand the reason that bitcoin is dragged into the sager of ico scam because you can't talk about the full body without mentioning a part of it. That is the simple reason and with a little more time, the whole sager will disappear with committed icos coming on.

People are still confused on Twitter's actions. They haven't banned BTC ads, but only the ICO ads since they were leading people into investing in them and twitter did not want a bad name for itself. Sooner or later they are going to lift this ban because they earn a lot through these adverts and I am sure they do not want to miss out on this easy money.

I am sure that Twitter will lift this ban as you said, because of ICOs ads they will earn a huge amount of money and I don't think they will maintain this ban in the future, sooner or later this problem will be solved. Nowadays, there is a huge turnout for cryptocurrencies and ICOs projects, from only ICOs ads, twitter will profit too much.

There is nothing ironic there as banning cryptocurrency advert basically for some reasons which they explained and was reasonable enough is totally different from going against the idea of the future of BTC.

Scammers have been making use of the advert space to influence people into buying into their shitcoin and they have some level of responsibility for their users. It is not like these social media platforms have banned crypto ad completely, as long as you can show you are legal, then you are good to go.

Whether we like it or not, this is an established fact that ICOs have given more harm to investors then good. On daily basis, we are hearing news of an ICO scam in which people lost their money and there is no way to recover that money. This gave big tech an opportunity to ban ads related to cryptocurrency and ICOs.
Big tech (like facebook, twitter and google) fear not cryptocurrency nor ICOs but their underlying technology i.e. blockchain. On blockchain there are already platforms developed and successfully running that are a decentralized alternative to what google, facebook, and twitter are providing. By placing a ban, Big tech are trying to save their business which will cease to exists if blockchain based apps became a success.

I think all social networks should try their best to ban scam ICOs. I appreciate this step of twitter that they promote bitcoin and took an action against scam ICOs. Other networks should also take some serious actions about such scam ICOs, so that innocent people can prevent themselves from such scams. Good to hear from twitter that bitcoin is the future currency.
