If I understand correctly, your issue is that it takes up all of the cpu?  I think that is by design...to maximize mining capabilities.  In theory, if you do ANYTHING else that requires CPU, poclbm should get out of the way and only use as much cpu as is available.

In theory.

should be using gpu, not cpu.
