We are a team developing a new open source social media. We have been working on this project since the first adpocolyspe problem on youtube arised. Today based on the recent issues, we think the existing social media needs a change and the changes have to originate from the community itself. We realized that if more participants join the community the more successful our project will be. Therefore, we are looking for motivated participants to join the community.
The main idea of the project is to give the ability to the creator to directly make contracts with the advertisers. The main goal is to change the incentive from content going viral to the quality of the content. The next step is to create a guardian system similar to blockchain miners but instead of verifying transactions they will verify content quality. We have furthermore ideas, but like I mentioned before first we need to make our community grow! We are specifically looking for front-end developers, graphic designers, and copywriters but any other help is welcome.
Please contact me if you feel we need the same change in social media!!!

You have to provide more information as all you do is advertise but don't even put at end what are you advertising? What difference do you have over steem blockchain and it's competitor to youtube - dtube which is decentralzied through use of IPFS for instance? Of course getting members is a must and necessary step, because members are the key to platforms success.

Just like what @ManaMan, give us more man, maybe you can find a lot of members who are willing and be interested to make the world (internet) a better place.  Grin

Seriously though, since cryptocurrency is fairly young, we don't know, maybe your idea of open source media will take places in the next 5 years or so. Or probably post this is the services section to attract potential freelancers or people who are willing to join under you. Any sort of payment though? Or each one should do their part to make some money out of your project?

I suppose to put more information in the first message, but I did not make a huge message. The biggest difference between our system and Steem is the payment method and the quality of the content. Steem offers a payment based on the influence of posts, while our system is based on creating quality content to receive advertising (although creators will still be able to receive donations and subscribing incomes). We try to encourage quality production in social media while from our point of view, Steem focuses on visualization. Today it may seem that the quality level on Steem is high compared to Youtube, but when big creators will start to enter the system everyone will try to make more visualizations and then it will create another Youtube. Therefore, small creators will no longer have the ability to make money. We will give creators the opportunity to make contracts directly with advertisers. So small creators will always have the ability to make money even if the system grows. Imagine a creator who has a channel where he talks about Chicago, certainly he will have a low audience and few views, but these few views can be used by a local pizzeria that decides to advertise his business. Even if there are a few thousand people, they are definitely interested in the pizzeria because they are from Chicago. Summing up we want to give small creators the chance to find small entrepreneurs who want to sponsor them. Giving to the creators the possibility to produce what they like, while small entrepreneurs will finally have the opportunity to advertise securely and conveniently on the internet (all the social media today are sponsored by large companies).

Yes you are right there are many concepts and projects that aim to improve social media, I think they are all different and in the future, they can coexist. Today the monopoly of some social media has ruined the initial concept of social and internet its self, I think it is better to have many types of social media rather than a monopoly. Regarding the payments, we are planning to distribute 12% of the coins to all the people participating in the tasks performed. We are currently using Taiga for the division of tasks/coins.

What would be its differences to steemit and platforms for video based off it?

Above you can read the main structural differences between us and Steemit; besides we consider our platform as an ecosystem, in fact in addition to a fair distribution of advertising profits, we develop a series of features to make life easier for everyone:

The Guardians: a new protocol to check the quality of the contents.

Easy exchange: internal exchanger to make self-intuitive and fast cashin/cashout.

Rosetta: removal of linguistic barriers, with voice over and translation services.

Network Sharing: viewers will be able to monetize by sharing with their community.

These are some interesting ideas in the social media space.  I believe that Twitter/Facebook/YouTube are doing themselves in with their extensive profiling and tracking.  That is playing out in the media right now.  Not sure where it will lead, potentially to some legal restrictions here in the U.S.  However, their business models are based on being able to highly target their ads, so any privacy restrictions will eat into their model.

I believe that decentralized social media is the answer, though there are some technical challenges that need to be met.  Please note, this does not mean that everything goes on a blockchain.  Though there is potential for some special-purpose blockchains in the mix.  My organization is working with some large content producers (YouTube people) and we've launched a project in our incubator program called Disperse.Network.  We want to get it to market sooner rather than later, so the decentralization will be incrementally implemented over time.  MVP will be less decentralized but will be launched later this year.  Decentralization isn't as crucial while a platform is undergoing constant evolution.  There's some great projects that provide a really good starting point to build upon.  The Disperse.Network platform is going to be more integrated than say the silo services Facebook/Twitter/YouTube/Instagram/Periscope.  The tighter integration between the various social media genres (microblogging, social network, video clips, images, livestreaming) will offer new ways to engage with the platforms.  It's an interesting project.

In any event, I believe you're on the right track with how you're looking at the evolution of social media.  It's going to take time, but the current platforms are sewing the seeds of their destruction.  Best of luck with it!

Best regards,
Ben

I write about the need for an increasing number of decentralized social media enterprises. We have seen that the big companies (Facebook, twitter, youtube, etc.) that receive shares from the advertising pie are worried about the blockchain and they had banned ads of ICOs at the time when receiving a stroke of luck. Now is the time for new technological ventures to emerge. These companies are already monopolized by exploiting the market. It's time for them to topple them from the throne.

I like the idea of such kind. And I think it is high time to make some platform with new possibilities and new vision, for people with the demands of this time. Facebook and UTube and so on were actual for their period of time, but everything is moving and developing. To my mind the great idea that will give users lots of possibilities will become popular very fast, like storm will rise and old platform may loose their popularity in some month. So. Do you still need a copywriter? I would like to try this idea.

Nice list (apart from the closed source ones), mediagoblin is what mostly caught our attention though.

What benefits would an average facebook user have on your platform ? The advertisers, contracts are the least concerns of a normal users.Until you can provide sufficient advantage over the existing platforms, you will have a hard time marketing your product.Perhaps you can take measures to make sure public data is never accessible to the third parties unlike facebook.

On our platforms we ensure quality content to users. They will not be wasting their time like they do on facebook. We will not collect personal data from users because on our platform they will have no value. Also, the user will be able to monetize within our network program.

Could you share how will the users be able to monetize and what are the contents which will help them to earn money from your platform and who will be paying money to the users? If this can be channelized logically it can be a big successful project.

Social media is very wide and can reach a very wide range of people from all walks of life.It has both positive and negative imparts on people. But social media campaigns can help people to find new areas of investment that will help them to earn more money. This is a postive use of social media and its very beneficial to the user.Positive usage of social media is really very beneficial. There is a bad use of social media that can also be very harmful to the user.

The advertiser will pay the users!!! So basically the advertiser instead of paying a huge percentage to a third-party company ( like YouTube, Facebook, ect... ) for targeting the advertising message; the advertiser will pay a lower percentage to the users of our platform for targeting the message. So advertiser will pay less percentage and will get a better targeting system since is directly a User targeting the message and not an algorithm. Maybe it sounds confusing... therefore I will like to invite you to our chat so I can better explain it.

Hmmm....

Seems interesting at first glance, but it would be better if you can show a demo site that displays the feature/benefit set you claim.

It sounds like Steemit, Trybe.one. Then you have to start with niche marketing then. Good luck!
