My husband asked my daughter if she understood what Bitcoin was.  She said, "You talk about it all the time.  You think it is like a miracle but then you say you could lose it all."

So then he tried to explain how it was a currency, like the money we had to exchange on our last vacation, but it is not a currency of any real country. It is only currency on the internet.  To which she replied, "Oh. It is like alien currency."

So I guess we are investing in alien currency that is a miracle that we could lose all of at some point?  Wink  Too funny!

you know what the best way is to teach her right? start paying her for chores around the house in bitcoin instead of fiat.

If one can not confer upon another a right which he does not himself first possess, by what means does the state derive the right to engage in behaviors from which the public is prohibited?

thats not gonna work, kids instantly cry or stop doing chores once they realise they cant instantly buy "hello kitty" socks or chocolate at walmart.

lol no way. my daughter loves doing chores, honestly she tries so hard to help that shes constantly getting in my way when im trying to clean the house. the money i give her is just a bonus, she would do it anyway even with out any monetary compensation.

also, omg adams so funny, your going to make me wake my wife up.

most giftcard for bitcoin sites are for the Yanks.. not the Brits.. so in my case its still not useful, and i know kids that prefer something in hand as a direct reward for chores. and not the whole go on computer play around with a couple websites to print out a voucher / get code sent to phone ..

family i have love seeing pennies in their little purses .. and the funniest thing.. if i gave them £1 in pennies (100 coins) they think they are receiving more then if i gave them a £1 coin. well they are all under 6yo so i cant blame them..

If I give you .01 BTC for chores and you hold for a year it could be worth .1BTC or even 1BTC someday!   Grin  I guess it could teach some delayed gratification.

I think "alien money" will be much more exciting when she needs to buy her first car or is going to college and we have enough to pay for it then!

How foolish are we all going to feel in a few years when we find out that Satoshi actually was an alien, and Bitcoin was just a ploy to create an intergalactic monetary system, of which he could fuel his planet's dying economy by siphoning off of earthlings inferior technology. On Satoshi's planet, asics cost 1 BTC/THash.

The sad part is, this is by far not the far fetched theory I've seen.

Like US currency which could be next on a long list?

The idea that it cannot or will not happen again is somewhat childish Smiley which is something you may wish to explain as well.
