Diversification is necessary in cryptocurrency to avoid big losses. If you only have one coin, you will miss the opportunity for the other altcoins that gives better profit over the other coins. If you have more than 1 coin it will balance the losses in case on is down and the other coin is going up.

In actual it is not possible for us to identify whether the particular coin will go for big up or just going to stable or going for big dump , but here still we have experience to predict whether at what averge the price can go down or up , so we can't go with single particular coin for Investment .
So for a better stable trade we need to have work with multiple altcoins with better potential instead to go with single coin .
It is just a chance of luck for us that we can make profit in bulk amount just by the single coin Investment i.e just a big chance of luck only.
So we need to go with the multiple altcoins Investment and that is perfect for the stable earnings in cryptourrency trading.

Diversification is a mandatory rule for an investor in any assets and is especially relevant for a crypto currency. But I don't recommend to buy a lot of different coins. 3-5 coins based on different blockchain will be enough.

We need to diversify to secure our investment.  If you invest all your money in one coin and it dump, you will lose all your investmwnt. Unlike with diversifying, if one coin crashed, you still have hope on other coin that might goes up and cover up your losses with the dumped coin.

we need diversify cause if you spend all your money in one coin and if that coin price fall down then all your money will go in vain. On the other hand if you buy different types of coin, some of coin price will low in market and some of them will high in market.

As mentioned by the others it is a one way to minimize the risks. Investing in one coin would have a 50% chance of losing your investment. It would be also risky to invest in one coin because the market's behavior is fluctuating.
