Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

Don't do this.   Your NAS is meant to be a NAS.  Use the proper tool for the job.

I have the same question and would like to experiment with mining without having to buy new, expensive and power hungry equipment.

What coins could be mined and how to set it up? Has anyone ever tried to mine on a NAS?

yup i tried to mine xmr on my qnap.  code the code, complied it and run it.

DONT DO IT...  take 100% of cpu (nas cpu is already low powered).  It basically turned my nas into a brick.  I had to stop the miner and everything returned to normal.

yes you can mine, but it is NOT worth it.  the hash rate will be extremely lowe, you wont make any money and your nas will become useless
