I feel the bitcointalk merit system should be suspended or stopped totally because it has left most people stucked in their current rank and it is quite frustrating that you can't move to the next stage without this merit.

merit indeed leads to many accounts that are difficult to rank, they are in the effort to make the post as good as possible in order to get merit, but the rules actually have a good purpose, the goal is that users in this forum to be smarter and quality.

This was a great fix for the reams of fake accounts being created and botted. They were spamming these forums with all kinds of worthless posts. I couldn't even read coin announcements without having to wade through post after post of just spam that's made to look legitimate.

These forums were basically broken without it. Now there is no reason to create new accounts and up rank them with posts just to get more free coinz from airdrops.

I agree 100%. People here too busy with Bitcoin price rise and fall. They do not look at "+merits". Have a look at my threads/topics and think how many merits should I have by now.

I am also quite irritated with the merit system thing in this forum as you can see the post count of my account and most probably i can go to the next rank already if this merit system is not in place, but i am still stuck at this jr member rank. From the forum point if leveling up to next rank is just by some simple task like post count and activity most people will just spam the forum instead of posting something substantial. I think the main problem is many of the higher rank member might not be actively giving s merit to the lower rank member, maybe the forum have to think of a solution to solve this problem, solutions like auto s merit to people with good post from moderators or forming a moderator s merit team for every different thread to reward smerit. Although we do see some member do put in the effort of opening a thread to give members with substantial post merit but that is just minority which can't really cater to the mass member in the whole forum, hope the person in charge of the forum can look into this problem soon.

Many new users in the forum are getting many merit points, due to the reliable content of their posts. I suggest for you to learn about how they are writing instead of begging or claiming about the merit system.
Since the merit system was implemented, there are some changes in the forum, most of them positive:
- The spam activities and fakes account have decreased notably.
- The quality of the posting activity (by some users) is greater.
- There are not so many farmer accounts.

Of course, there are negative issues, as:
- Every day there is a new post about the merit system, well, much more than one, there are hundreds of them.
- There is a merit traffic market showing up on some boards.
- There are some farmers giving merit to really undeserved posts, and it can desperate good users.

I understand how many of you can find unfair the merit system. It has hardened the process of ranking up, but you should be humble and learn before posting. Now, learn from the best, for they are many in here earning incredible amounts of merit due to their quality.
Merit system, from my point of view, was not only necessary but urgent.

Merit system is good for this forum. It makes forum posters more awareness to create quality post. It prevent us to post garbage posting. If we still post like a garbage then we would never change our rank.

I think even how you are great in making a constructive post if people didn't recognize you it still nothing if they will not give smerit on you and it makes those who works hard and making quality post to ladder up and rank up.

nah i agree with you, i confused to get sMerit  its so hard by me.

I see there is a merit system when you are high position. Well based to what  understand merit system is useful so that it will filter the quality of the post.

The idea of habing a merit system to make all the post constructive and substantial is really good but earning those merit is really hard even though your post are in good quality and very substantial so there are pros and cons for this merit system.

Maybe they should add a Moderator that monitors submitted usernames? then they give those usernames merit if they are proved to be none bot/spam users. But that would take more time. I guess if they give incentives as well for the reviewers it might work? just my 2 cents.

for a newbie this is a big problem,
but with the merit of the quality of the post will be even better,
it also reduces people with minimal knowledge that has a high rank

I think what makes organisations thick are rules.
Rules are meant to be observed and upheld, not the other way round.
It's good to protest where you deem it necessary, but always do your best to abide coz we're all in it
