What is HODL, do you really want to know what a great word it is? I think that many people tell you here for a reason, it's really the whole art of HODL, in order to possess it, you have to be a very, very patient person and not get caught up in the ridiculous antics of fate that is experiencing us.

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

HODL is a typo, misspelling HOLD. When one of the members here in bitcointalk who said he is going to hold on to bitcoin even if the price fell. Since then it has been popular in bitcoin and cryptocurrency world. With the rise of cryptos, a new breed of lingo has also developed.
Is good to know the history of the term but I will advice to get the cryptocurrency glossary online and get used to the terms. You may not have to keep opening threads for every terms you do not understand.

The term came from the word itself, it came from the word hold. So it means hold your money. When somebody told you that hodl that coin, it simply means that hold your coin until it booms Smiley.

Someone just made a mistake in writing this word. But other people liked this mistake. Now, "HODL" has become a very popular expression. I also like it and I use it. The meaning of this word you understand correctly))) By the way it's a little bit in tune with Hodor Grin

hodl is also known as HODLING which means to survive and not sell the coins we have, even when the price is falling, we must patiently play with the long-term game and not easily tempted by the opportunity to earn a lot of money and get rich suddenly especially if you are the type people who continue to see Bitcoin price movements.

Hodling means storing your altcoins for a long time to earn a bigger profit. It means you will not trade or sell it yet until the price of the coin reach the moon! Hodl is an another term for hold.

HODL = Hold On for Dear Life, that mean bought crypto for very long investment until they get huge profit, lets say people bought crypto in 2012 and still dont sell yet untill now, that called HODL. Usually people who did it is early adopter who bought Bitcoin in cheap price. HODL is for investor who want to make profit  in very long term investment and dont have times to do trading.

HODL means also HOLD, meaning if you have coins altcoin or bitcoin when they say it is good to HODL your coins at this moment because the market value is low, it means you should hold and not to sell your coins.

Can anyone clarify what this term means? I was wondering if it should really be spelt as "HOLD" or the meaning of "HODL" is really crypto-related. I already tried searching threads that explain this but was unsuccessful. I was very curious since I began reading discussions in bitcointalk and I usually see this term but I just understand it to mean 'hold' which means don't sell yet your coins. Please correct my misunderstanding if any. Thanks for your time.

It is an internet slang for crypto that means "Hold on dear life" . It means holding the coin for the long term. But the big loophole for that is you can't hold a coin forever. In investing on this kind of market, The profit is made by selling. So if you wont sell you wont make any profits at all. You need to do due diligence in able to know what your target is when you are going to sell.

It means not getting distracted by short-term market movements while the market is panicking. I think of it as "hold on for dear life." It takes enormous discipline not to sell during a panic.

I think "HOLD" is an important strategy to apply when you invest in the crypto world. You can hold your coins when the market is unfriendly to you, when the market price is down, this strategy is very good and appropriate to apply to this situation. In order for you not to lose much of your money, so you do not feel harmed by crypto you can hold your coins up to the market price back up.

I mean that I bought some altcoins and will hold them in my portfolio for 6-12 months. Nothing can change my decision, even bad or excellent market conditions. After that perion of time I decide what to do the next.

Others understand "HOLD" as not to sell in panic when the market is going down.

You do not have to sell your coins for sale at very cheap prices from the time you buy them. Keep up with the knowledge I know and what I read is holding the coins you have when the price goes down

HODL
Where it all began, or so legend has it, was back in 2013 when a user commented right here on BitcoinTalk, and an innocent typo became an instant meme lingo sensation. What did he spell incorrectly? HOLD. You will often hear people say HODL (Hold On For Dear Life) or HODLing.
The act of HODLing coins (waiting for them to rise and make the holder a Bitcoin millionaire), is often considered a newb, or newbie, trait, however, many cryptocurrency investors HODL.

Don’t sell — HODL dude!

HOLD means holding something. It refers to a thing that can be stored for a long time and wait for the right time. This is one of my strategy that I used in regard with cryptocurrency. Don't panic just calm and hold.

The very first time the term HODL appeared on the Bitcoin talk forum was in 2013 and came from a member named GameKyuubi under the thread “I AM HODLING”. basically, “HODL” was originally a typo which has now popularly earned the status of a humorous backronym:
From the look of the post, he was drunk and wanted to convey the fact that he was holding his BTC despite the serious fall that had just happened.
Since then, this misspelled term became very popular in the Bitcoin and cryptocurrency world. Whenever a person says in a conversation that he/she is hodling or suggests to hodl, it means that they believe their coin will be profitable one day, if not today.
So basically, “HODL” was originally a typo which has now popularly earned the status of a humorous backronym:
“HODL” – “Hold on for dear life”"
