Most of the scams are easy to detect.
In most cases, they have no solid team.
If a project is backed by all-star team members, it usually isn't a scam.

I was thinking of Investing in an ICO but I think it's safer once it hits the exchange and when the price is relatively low and see what the company is upto then to invest. Better safe than sorry
Exactly, investing money into an ico should be with careful caution. Considering many irresponsible people take advantage of the situation in ico. Better to invest in the 100 best altcoin that is already clear

In fact, probably even 95% of all ICOs are scammers. The problem is that any big money attracts scams, which then kill the ecosystem of the entire business. It's sad.

90% of ICO's have only idea, without a team and good WP and only promises that they will be able to translate their idea into reality after collecting few millions. This does not mean that they are scammers, but it shows their attitude to their own project.

I think so. We can be cheaten by others if we are not careful enough. We need to make enough research while we do the the investment. The more careful we are, the better we will be. Just do the right thing.

That is a bit of an exaggerrated percentage don't you think? Sure, a lot of the ICOs that are coming out now are scammers just trying to make some quick money from unsuspecting investors but that does not mean that it is up to 80 percent that are scams. 60 percent is more like it and people should not be scared to invest in ICOs, just be careful and make sure you are investing in a good one is all.

Now a lot of scam projects.  But they are less than 80%.  A lot of unsuccessful projects.  But there are good ones too.

Now there are really a lot of bad projects.  Very few ICO achieve soft cap.  And to find a good ICO you have to spend a lot of time.

As far as I have been on some reputable news sites, only 40% of ICOs are scam. The remaining 60% is still the prestigious ICO. But to succeed and raise prices after listing on the exchange, only 10% of ICO projects are successful

I completely agree.  I do not advise you to take risks and invest in ICO.  There are other ways to make money.

Saw this study on twitter... https://twitter.com/Zeex_me/status/978981735101878272

I've seen a lot of people asking about how many legit ICOs there are, so I thought I'd share

Quote from the article: "The study begins by breaking down ICOs into 6 groups: Scam, Failed, Gone Dead, Dwindling, Promising, Successful. “On the basis of the above classification,” they wrote, “we found that approximately 81% of ICO’s were Scams, ~6% Failed, ~5% had Gone Dead, and ~8% went on to trade on a exchange.”

"Scams were defined by researchers as “Any project that expressed availability of [an] ICO investment (through a website publishing, ANN thread, or social media posting with a contribution address), did not have/had no intention of fulfilling project development duties with the funds, and/or was deemed by the community (message boards, website or other online information) to be a scam.”

DYOR people ...
What are you saying this? what you say is really wrong.
I'm sure you say that way because you've been fooled by the ICO scam. So you make bad news to ICO.
Not every ICO is a scam.

I think it's kinda inappropriate to spread bad news about ICO when their projects have succeeded. Some had helped from ICOs and some are not. What I want to say is that just because it never helped us, doesn't mean its bad. Not all are the same scam. Just invest in other ways.

I think the scam projects are about 40%.  And somewhere around 30% are projects that did not get the soft cap.  And only 30% of successful projects.

I don't think there is anything ICO is worth for you to invest a lot of money. Now many ICOs are scams. You invest in ICOs rather than buying some bitcoins.

There are reported ICOs that scammed all of its investors and participant but I do not agree of the given percentage on how many are scams. There are many ICOs which are profitable so even if there are reported to be not,  participating won't be a bad idea because there's still a chance to earn profit from ICOs. that's why background check is really important when choosing a project in the market particularly ICO projects.

Well in the first place, an ICO is already fishy when they don't have a working product or MVP. We all know that companies are only supposed to be public when they are able and have regular revenue. Though it is different in this space, we still need to make sure the team has a solid background. Please be careful investing in such ICOs.

Such statistics do exist and I would even say that I have the same vision of the market from projects in which I invested my money and time, I do not understand why the all-powerful SEC which was able to integrate such a stupid operation as KYC and AML can not solve the problem with scamers. Maybe it's not about investors, but about developers, and first and foremost they need to go through KYC
