Ok, so I have a challenge here. First off, yes this is possible, but hard. Any hardware can be used, but must be provided with links, for both new and used.

Here is your McGuyver box of parts.

$700 usd
1 160gb Sata drive
2 300gb Ata drives
1 Ata -> Sata connector
2 350w ATX psu
2 1x -> 16x adapters
1 q6600 Intel Core2Quad
1 Socket 755 P4
1 Amd Semperon 140
4 2gb DDR3
2 512mb DDR2
3 256mb DDR
1 single 16x slot mobo on 775 chipset. No Psu with board. DDR 2 ram. 1 sata connection.
HD 5450 1gb
HD 4550 1gb?
Geforce 8800
3 working Amd Ath 3300 computers, agp slots only, run about 3mhs each on cpu. AMD x1300 gpu.

Now here are the rules. Use anything you see above. Parts can be traded or sold, but in order to use that in your build you must find proof that someone will buy the item at the price you said if you are going to sell parts to pay for others. You can modify hardware, ie, dual psu splicing or 1x slot jumping, just note it.

I figure I may make some kind of prize for this. Probably some coin change or some digital item to make it easy. Ill update if I figure something out. For now I'll start a prize pool of 0.75btc

Good luck

First off, 2gh/s wont be happening with 700 dollars, but you can get pretty close.
This list is made assuming new GPUs because 5xxx series are very hard to obtain. You will find just about no store holding them in stock at reasonable prices.

Useless parts:
Sell the 3 working athlon 3300's at $10 each for $30, sell the random GPUs for $40 total (8800 for 20 bucks), gain $70. Optionally sell the core 2 quad and sempron but I wont cover this in the calculation, however those will net you about 100 bucks or more

Quote
1 single 16x slot mobo on 775 chipset. No Psu with board. DDR 2 ram. 1 sata connection.

Add the spare 350W PSU and P4 processor, one of the 512MB DDR2 ram sticks, run it on the 160gb drive. Add Radeon 6950 @ $239, reflash via hardmod to gain about 400-430mhash/s, connect via supplied Molex -> PCIe, PSU will handle it if you keep CPU usage down to a minimum

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150523

You are down to 531 dollars. You wont have enough to buy two more 6950's and build a system around them, even that would only come down to 1.2ghash/s

Best bet is buying used old computers with PCI-e slots (even x1 will do fine) on sites like craigslist or ebay at about $30-$50 a piece. Then fit them with used 5830's 5850's, 5870's.
You might just be able to stretch to about 1.6ghash/s if you find 4 5870's at $150 each and buy a used PC for each one at 25 dollars. That's a bit of a stretch though.

If you want to aim for a lower, more realistic goal post here

I know for a fact that this can be done. Plus, this isnt like a "I have all this, and want to do X" situation. Its a hypothetical game here to see how to solve a problem.
Think like "We have all this stuff up on Apollo 13. Make a way for our guys to breathe." type deal. Im more interested in the ability of the members here than anything else.

You mean it's a scam like those special promos at some places where they put up signs like "Netbook at $99 only" but they only have one piece for the very first person who gets there while the rest are all at $299? Kinda sucky.

Yes, almost all the rebates on Newegg, and other places I've checked are all one rebate per household.

Oh well, I'm glad I factor in some extra value for that P4 in excess of the $552 that was needed  Cheesy

Before anybody gets too upset though, obviously this is just for laughs Cheesy

nobody in the world will buy a p4 desktop for $150 bucks & nobody will pay 50 bucks each for an obsolete athlon computer with agp slots

also shipping per card is at least $15 dollars or you have to buy directly at $149.95 on ebay

i've sold p3 desktops for a hundred with much less powerful graphics cards. i can easily see a p4 selling for 150 on my local craigslist. and as far as the obsolete 3300 yeah people will pay 50 dollars for a computer that can just get on line with xp or ubuntu they're more than capable of that

Anyone else? I just got lucky yesterday and picked up a new rig basis for 40 because they upgraded to a laptop and just wanted the desktop gone.
