Here is a breakdown of sMerit sent during the period going from 24/01/2018 through to 23/03/2018. My focus this time is to present the data (Tx data originated from the merit.txt file) by rank, and see the amount of sMerit sent from one Rank to another.

The data only relates to users involved in an sMerit Transaction, so users who have neither sent nor received sMerit are not part of the scope of study.

Bare in mind that graphs show which Ranks receive more sMerit from a given Rank. This is often logical due to the amount of user per Rank.

Note: Rank is not the Rank that the user had at the time of sending each sMerit (which would be desirable, but way more complex), but the current Rank of each user. Therefore, the data presented is a good aproximation, but not exact.

Note: It may be interesting to add to the tables the average received per user in a given rank level and a few other fields. I wanted to keep it simple for now, so those may be added later on if required.

The intention is merely statistical, so without further delay, here it goes....

Ranked-up Users

Backtracking the data, we can see who has ranked-up since the Merit Sytem was set in motion:

    0  Legendary
4  Hero Members (from Sr. Member)
18 Sr. Members (from Full Member)
39 Full Members (from Member, 3 of them from lower ranks)
975 Members (from Jr Members or lower)

Not too many really given the size of the community. What would be good to know is how many ranked up in 2 months before the system was set in motion to see if this a good pace or not.

Lists of users that ranked up to Hero and Sr Member are provided at the end of this post.

Note: Those are regular ranks (I don't know if Copper Members rank up to let's say Legendary at somepoint).

1. Merit Senders

As expected, sent sMerit is totally correlated to the Senders Rank. Nevertheless, if we compare it to the Merit bare minimun required per Rank, things are not proportional.
For example, Full Member requires 100 Merits and Sr. Member 250 (x2,5). But the difference between those two groups is less than 2 points when it comes to sending sMerit.

Another fact I found astonising, if I'm not wrong, is that only a small portion of sMerit has actually been given away up to now. If we add up all the Merit gained by all users and half-it, we get rougly 1 million sMerit in possesion of users (not counting Merit Sources). Since all TX add up to 111.872 sMerits, it means that only 10,52% has been given out so far.... and that is only adding-up the sMerit from users that have given at least 1 sMerit in this perior of time (more users exist having not yet given any away).

Edit: Included 03/04/2018

Note: Only users that have sent at least 1 sMerit are included in the dataset shown.

2. Merit Receivers

The amount of sMerit received per unique user recreases with rank (this is visible looking at the rable and dividing Merit/numUsersTo. The graph shows more %sMerit received by Full Members and Members, but they are the larger groups so it´s logical.

3. Merit Sent from Administrators. Who they send it to:

4. Merit Sent from Global Moderators. Who they send it to:

5. Merit Sent from Staff. Who they send it to:

6. Merit Sent from Donators. Who they send it to:

11. Merit Sent from Full Members. Who they send it to:

12. Merit Sent from Members. Who they send it to:

13. Merit Sent from Jr. Members. Who they send it to:

Although the numbers is small, this statistics prove that every rank in this forum got merits from each of ranks. I guess it will be increased in the future when we have more merit sources ( and i cannot wait for it to be happen). For OP, i give you an sMerits because i can not give much this time.

Early on, in late January and early Febuary I think I gave most of my sMerits to higher-ranked members, though I didn't keep track and I haven't even looked.  Lately, I've been trying to give sMerits out to lower-ranked members who really deserve it.  The problem is that there are so few posts I see by Newbie-Member ranks that are worth meriting--but I have fairly high standards and only so much sMerit to give.

And dammit, some of the best posts are written by Hero-Legendary ranked members.  There's no getting around that, in my opinion.  Right now I'm totally out of sMerits, but if and when I get some I'll continue trying to reward the people who need to rank up.  I try to avoid meriting Legendary members, but I have no problem sending sMerits to Heros.  They need it as well.

Decent analysis, OP.  I owe you a merit.

Wonder no more.. Here is the answer to your question:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1169572
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;u=1169572

It does seem like a glitch though, since the user received only 5 Merit (2,5 sMerit therefore acumulated) in the 120 days  prior to giving 6 sMerit away .. beats me.

Aww, thanks.  And I gave what I said I'd give to OP here.

I wasn't subtly begging for merit with my post in this thread, either.  It's just that I've run out of sMerits and keep wanting to give them to people who make threads like this, that are nicely thought through and well-presented, and I just don't have the merits to give.  It's not that I'm trying to keep the poor noob (or Member in this case) down--I'm really not able to give out more merit than I have, and that's the bottom line.  I have a feeling that there are other people around here who are in the same boat.  Can't give what you don't have, right?

Just FYI:  That post I made in the gambling thread was more about addiction than gambling, and that's why I made it.  I generally don't have a lot to say about real gambling and the mechanics thereof, since I don't partake in that vice--but I'm all too familiar with addiction.  That whole thread caught my eye, and there are some crazy degenerate gamblers on bitcointalk who probably need some help in quitting.  That'll ruin people and families just as easily as the current fentanyl-laced bags of heroin are doing.

This can confirm what I wrote in the past, often high rank people don't even read what low rank people say. (Not everyone, of course!)
At decreasing of the rank for givers the merit for low rank people increase.
At the increasing of the rank for givers the merit for low rank people decrease.

@OP,
Can you extrapolate from your data who or how many ranked up with the merit system?

Yes thanks. Makes sense: He has 105 Merit (100 airdrop + 5 received). All posts deleted therefore Brand New rank.

Chart 1 tells you how many users and merit transactions are considered in the Analysis. Look at the totals there. Basically, every user that had either sent or received at least one sMerit since it was put in motion.

You have 10 Merit, so therefore 5 sMerit. The thing is it does not appear on the user profile but you will see it by pressing the +merit link that appears on every post as Talk merit pointed out.

Well, if he extrapolate that data, myself would be accounted to that data  Grin , but i dont know, i didnt ranked up yet, still waiting for my activity, but i have seen a lot of people ranking up since this merit system, some of them that i can remember are iasenko (going to full member from member) and TheQuin (going to hero member from senior member). So, merit rocks !

This can confirm what I wrote in the past, often high rank people don't even read what low rank people say. (Not everyone, of course!)
At decreasing of the rank for givers the merit for low rank people increase.
At the increasing of the rank for givers the merit for low rank people decrease.

I've also ranked  but I'm statistics fanatic and I asked if it was possible Wink

@OP,

Yes, i had it on my list of potential other information to derive...but I'm already getting this kind of look from people around me for forgetting them:  Angry Angry

I Included a new section at the top with a list of members that ranked up, and at the bottom of the post the names of the users of both Hero and Sr Members thar ranked up, with a reference to Copper Members that performed really well.

In summary:

Ranked-up Users

Backtracking the data, we can see who has ranked-up since the Merit Sytem was set in motion:

    0  Legendary
4  Hero Members (from Sr. Member)
18 Sr. Members (from Full Member)
39 Full Members (from Member, 3 of them from lower ranks)
975 Members (from Jr Members or lower)
TheQuin
Hero Member

Here is a breakdown of sMerit sent during the period going from 24/01/2018 through to 23/03/2018.

....

Note: MeritBefore may no be exactly before, since all dataset are not extracted on exactly the same date.

I don't understand this bit as the system was introduced on 24/1 shouldn't everybody's before number be equal to their rank? So all Sr. Members would have started at 250 etc.

I just wanted to make the point that you can't really do a comparison of the numbers that ranked up yet as it takes 8.5 months to get the activity to get from Sr. to Hero we'll have to wait that long to get a fair measure.
