Hey guys, heads up there is actually an exchange here in Korea now that you can buy and sell BTC with KRW.  They have accounts with KB bank and you can do bank transfers from most any bank.

https://www.korbit.co.kr/

Fees are 1%  Volume is low, but its nice to have an option available finally.

Excellent! I've been wondering if there was one in Korea. Is this the only one?

수수료는 좀 비산가봐요. ㅠㅠ

어젯든...

한국에 다른 비트코인 환전벙법을 없으면...

There is also http://www.buybitcoin.co.kr/index.htm but it's run by foreigners, can't remember which country.

The fees are 5% per trade so I've never bothered to sign up.  Those type of fees aren't worth the time to check it out.

I can see they are updating the site, but I prefer to deal with korbit because 1) it's run by Koreans who know the banking system here 2) the owner speaks perfect English and seems knowledgeable and active in the bitcoin realm 3) There is nothing else.

If you need help email them and they will help you set up an account as a foreigner.

PS I do want to hold a meet up here in Korea.  if your interested let me know.  Probably early December.

And I thought Virtex's 3% was extortionate! (Is it run by Canadians? Tongue )

Thanks for the info there! I'll email them & see about getting an account setup.  Grin

I would, but I'm no longer in Korea. I have business there, but it doesn't require my physical presence.

Well, I have been thinking about this and I think there are two or more factors.  First of all volume is quite low, and on the sell side of things I think there are probably very few sellers, and maybe only a couple who are taking cues from each other and keeping the price high.  And on the buy side, because there are literally no other options in Korea for purchasing bitcoins in Korean with a Korean bank transfer, people are willing to pay a premium to get 2 or 3 coins.  There haven't been any trades over 10 bitcoins that I have seen.
I've been watching for two or three weeks now and hoping the price would at least align with Mt.Gox, but no dice.

Seems to me an excellent arbitrage opportunity.
