If you're going to aspire to watch films by Wong Kar-Wai, then you need to do it right. I don't know if you've seen any of his films, but assuming you have not, the films to watch are:

Chungking Express
Fallen Angels
Days of Being Wild *
In the Mood for Love *
2046 *
Ashes of Time Redux

All feature Wong Kar-Wai's signature style. The ones marked with an asterisk (*) are part of a loose trilogy, but can be watched in any order. I actually encourage Wong Kar-Wai newcomers to watch Chungking Express first, and regardless of their opinion of that film, to then watch 2046 second.

I was going to say that most people have not heard of them. But then I realized that would lead you to an erroneous assumption. More correctly, your average Joe has not heard of them. But among cinephiles, critics and movie directors, those films are not only well known, but highly revered and praised. Very highly. As some of the best films ever made.

Fast & Furious 6....

Fast five is better than 6 for me. I hate that airport scene at 6, That airport i 150 Kilometers long

The series went downhill after the first one imo.

Agree, but I still like the movie ...

You can't be serious. I mean, seriously. I think you need to step up your cinematic experience.

Some of my favorite movies of all time:

Days of Being Wild: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cExEkJjyD8
Late Autumn
Equinox Flower: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wI6LfigwYA
Yi Yi
Floating Clouds

A beautiful montage of shots from the films of Mikio Naruse: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uudNdgYhQzA

The hallways in Ozu's films: https://vimeo.com/55956937

The movies sound nice , but I have not seen any of them  Tongue

I was going to say that most people have not heard of them. But then I realized that would lead you to an erroneous assumption. More correctly, your average Joe has not heard of them. But among cinephiles, critics and movie directors, those films are not only well known, but highly revered and praised. Very highly. As some of the best films ever made.

I'll start downloading some of these and watch 1 or 2 in the weekend. I'll let you what I think about them.

Do you download them so you can get bad subtitles, compressed imagery, and cheat the people who restored these films, thus putting all of us on a path where investors won't invest in film archival in the future?

Ha! Okay, I'll let it slide this time, because you're being a good sport and intend to watch them. Here's a tip though. Nine of the films are available on Hulu Plus (if you live in the States) for a whopping $8.00 a month. 2046 is available as a DVD (no Blu-ray available) for about $10.00, and it doesn't have the bad subtitles which alter the meaning of the dialog. The others are available in various forms, but likely more expensive.

Most importantly, you need some context for these films. With regard to Ozu, your first movie should be Late Spring. It has been voted the 15th greatest film of all time. There's reasons why. Learn about Ozu to better understand. With regard to Naruse, your first film should be When a Woman Ascends the Stairs. You'll discover the Actress Hideko Takamine in that film. Chungking Express makes a good first film to watch by Wong Kar-Wai, followed by 2046. Sansho the Bailiff makes for a good first film from Kenji Mizoguchi. And of course, Yi Yi is the only film on the list from Edward Yang.

Now that I apparently have convinced you of the greatness of these films, please keep an eye on this thread, as I will continue to share more information on the films (sans spoilers) to help you derive more pleasure from them. And great pleasure can be derived from these films - more than most of the stuff you've probably been watching - but it can take a little effort on your part. You don't just take a cavalier attitude with regard to watching these films, as though you were going to catch the latest Hollywood flick. Some understanding of the importance of these films, there context, their place in history, the cultures they represent, the director's reputation within the world of film, and so on, all matter.

Hulu is free. Hulu Plus is $8.00 a month. Many of my selections are on Hulu Plus. If you're paying for it, great. If not, you can usually see the first minute.

For newcomers to the Golden Era of Japanese Cinema, and the Japanese New Wave, a certain order might work best, if you're not accustomed to watching older films, especially foreign films. I realize you'll want something with a cool or modern feel to it, to help ease yourself into the more traditional material. Therefore, I recommend starting with a classic masterpiece from Masahiro Shinoda and an equally classic masterpiece from Hiroshi Teshigahara.

Masahiro Shinoda:
- Pale Flower: http://www.hulu.com/watch/265813

Hiroshi Teshigahara:
- The Face of Another: http://www.hulu.com/watch/241914

From there, you're just going to have to bite the bullet and tackle the masterpieces from the three masters themselves. These films are essentially about women and society. The three directors I'm presenting here are Yasujiro Ozu, Mikio Naruse, and Kenji Mizoguchi. Pick a director, and stick to the order within each director's works, as I have presented them.

Mikio Naruse:
- When a Woman Ascends the Stairs: http://www.hulu.com/watch/241928
- Floating Clouds: http://www.hulu.com/watch/400783
- Yearning: http://www.hulu.com/watch/348203

Yasujiro Ozu:
- Late Spring: http://www.hulu.com/watch/238248
- Early Summer: http://www.hulu.com/watch/243416
- Tokyo Twilight: http://www.hulu.com/watch/247375
- Equinox Flower: http://www.hulu.com/watch/238245
- Late Autumn: http://www.hulu.com/watch/243404
- Floating Weeds: http://www.hulu.com/watch/245714

Kenji Mizoguchi:
- Ugetsu: http://www.hulu.com/watch/215837
- Sansho the Bailiff: http://www.hulu.com/watch/237126
