tryed backup without success?

Hi,

I tryed to import my map => %appdata%/roaming/multibit to my usb drive together with the map => c:/program files/Multibit/Name-data.
I then imported my key to the usb drive
and then downloaded the multibit again on the other offline pc and overwrited everything for testing the backup but he only takes over my settings and not the money on the wallet.
i did file=>open wallet and added the .wallet of the 2cent one and overwrited every map/file to the same map/file

It's only 2 cent for the moment but i want to secure and backup it first well before adding more to it. Also i downloaded multibit from http://multibit.org but i heard that its more ecrypted from the blockchain.info website. Is there any way to keep my address and encrypt it from that site?? or any other option to secure it more?

Hi Jochen,

Good that you are trying out your wallet backups with small amounts and testing whether it works.

There is a description of all the files that are created by MultiBit on your disk that you might find useful here:

I thought I would describe how I backup my wallets as you might want to do something similar.
I have a few Truecrypt volumes at various locations that I use for backups.

The top level directory is:
    walletBackups

Then if today I want to backup a wallet called 'savings' I would create a new directory:
   walletBackups/2013-11-02

and in there I would copy:
   savings.wallet
   savings.info
   savings-data (and all its contents)

I don't delete earlier backups (They are only small. You do not want to delete the wrong thing by accident)

This way I can open the file savings.wallet directly in any copy of multibit and check everything is ok.


There is no single 'best' way to do backups - I know some people rely on TimeMachine and other people use automated cloud backups.

In your last paragraph I did not quite understand what you are trying to do. MultiBit is at https://multibit.org and blockchain.info is a separate wallet entirely. You can migrate a wallet in one to the other (as described in the MultiBit help) but generally you only want to do this if, say, blockchain.info is being DDOSed or perhaps you don't like MultiBit and want to move your private keys out to another wallet.

Generally I find copying private keys around 'promiscuously' leads to confusion and errors so I recommend keeping things simple.

Whats wrong with taking an image of the HDD,  most of us are on SSD's anyway so its quick and doesn't take make sense.  I can't think of a week gone by I have used windows without taking an image backup.  The restore process is so simple,  protects you from all sorts of crazy things.

I never see it mentioned that's was I ask?

WHY ISNT THERE AN EASY WAY TO EXPORT AND IMPORT PRIVATE KEYS, ARGHHH I HATE THIS SHITTTTTT ALL these Devs and no one has made 2 simple CLICK button resolution to export your key and then import it.

Apparently multibit as I said "APPARENTLY" it does... well that dosnt work for shit. I export fine... soon as I load multibit on another PC and choose to import

It frezzes at 12% And no one here seems to know how to help or know what the problem is? Isnt there the Dev here of multibit, like the "CREATOR"

Moving private keys around isn't particularly easy in MultiBit because it is easy to make mistakes. It's only really intended for backing things up.

For the next version of MultiBit people will use a seed phrase (like in Electrum) and importing and exporting private keys won't be supported.
