I just installed a new motherboard and PSU and powered on the GPUs. I did not plug the GPUs into the motherboard yet, just the PSU. I installed windows and let it update and then I downloaded some miners and wallets I use. It would shut off after and hour or so than turn back on and repeated.

It means your system restarted, you can check your windows event log on what would be the possible cause

possible also would be the windows update if auto install enabled, then it restarts automatically upon finishing updates.

Yes sir that's right, there may be an update and it  needs to restart. But if it turns out there is no update and restart / even turn itself off, there is a possibility of unstable power supply, you can use a voltage stabilizer like stavolt or ups. But if it turns out the electricity or because you already uses stabilizer, maybe oc your gpu is too high or there is one of your hardware get some problem. Try one by one removed and then put back again. Smiley

i think you windows still continue to download new security updates, it will continue to update and reboot until all updates are finished
I'm sure you saw the message during reboot saying something like do not shutdown your pc, bla bla bla..
so just wait while all updates are done and you're good to go

If you are using Windows 10 this is what I used when I set up my first rig.

https://www.windowscentral.com/how-stop-updates-installing-automatically-windows-10

It was advised by the how to videos I watched when setting up. My rig now runs steady without issue. Changing these settings gives you the option to manually accept the updates.

Good luck

Like the other said above, sound like most possible causing your problem is you haven't finished updates. You can check update history to make it sure. If it's isn't cause it. You can start to do troubleshooting.

If by "shut off" you mean it would just power off without warning then the first thing that comes to mind for me is possible CPU overheating.  Double check your CPU heatsink.  A CPU overheat issue will do exactly that.

the most expensive component to a GPU mining rig. They also are potentially re usable if treated carefully and not over worked. Because of their re purpose able value, you’ll want to keep the static bags, boxes, packing material, etc so you can either re-purpose yourself or sell should you wish or should GPU mining become infeasible in the future. In my experience, out of all the GPUs I’ve tested, the system Gaming line have a side benefit of being the best packaged GPUs as well.the turn of the rig mining process also designing whould process to strategy.
