Just got Bitcoin-Qt, latest version direct from Sourceforge, got the latest blockchain via the Torrent, and launched Bitcoin-Qt.

It imported the file that I got from the torrent (about 8 GB) and now it's trying to synchronize the rest of the blockchain. I left it on overnight, during which time it alternated between low CPU usage and being pegged at 100% on all 8 cores. Now it's still going and doesn't seem to be making much progress.

Any suggestions?

What name would you give to the smallest unit of bitcoin (0.00000001)? sat. What name would you give to 100 sats? bit. 1 bit = 1 uBTC. 1,000,000 bits = 1 BTC. It's bits

Open your debug console and check for your logs. If your client is downloading blockchain, everything is fine.
It will become slower at the end.

It's the same on every system.
