Hey Rob! Great work on the new release!

I just have 2 quick questions:

1) For the current set-up when sleep is enabled the box for "use GPU while computer is in use" is unchecked. I believe this may be backwards from your intention. From BOINC user manual:

Use GPU while computer is in use: When checked, this allows BOINC to do calculations on the graphics processing unit

It seems that we want that box to actually be checked when the sleep function is enabled.

This starts to be very depressing for me...I have lost the count of how many times I have restarted my wallet....always getting losing sync!

I can't see were is the update...Zip file always giving error 404...If I download .msi I get 83 version and not the 84 version!

I'm starting to losing hope to continue to mine this coin  

I have tried a lot of things....upgrade from console...and from prompt command also!

I have downloaded the .msi file a lot of times...nothing....always getting 83 version and not getting my wallet synchronized!

I have tried different browsers...clean cache...nothing!

I can confirm the zip file is giving a 404 error. Rob will probably fix it today I think he is doing some upgrades to the site today with the new logo.

Would it be possible to include a 'Manually send beacon' button, and 'verify cpu mining' button?

Otherwise we'll be waiting up to 3 days for a beacon to send, to which for those 3 days we might not be cpu mining.

That is not how it works.
If your machine is "cpumining" enabled and it needs to send beacons (last beacon is sent 72+hours)
 it will send it out in the first couple of minutes(maybe hours)  no matter what.

Yeah, except I have cpumining enabled and it's not sending out beacons. Hence i'd like a manual force beacon & check cpu mining status icon or something.

Also, are there any plans to create a linux native gridcoin client? That is, without the requirement to run it in wine?

I have installed the download of 83 version I made this morning and now it's working fine...even the scrypt sleep is working good now!

2) I also was wondering if you have added a command for BOINC to read the local preferences file after the box is checked/unchecked. I have noticed that my changes never seem to stick unless I tell BOINC to read the local preferences file after I make changes.

Oh really???  Oh no.....  Sorry.....  I converted the Sleep/Work to binary, and sent the 0 or 1 in and unit tested that it "changes" lol.  I guess I converted the binary backwards.

PS JohnATX, on the r9270x, I don't think boinc is using them.  Im having the same problem.  But regarding sleeping, your cards should sleep in sleep mode as far as hashing goes.  
I will look into shutting them down during a restart- but don't worry about that too much the moment the next block hits it readjusts them, and rejects sleep violations inside the block checker.

I have returned to version 83/8.5, with this one I get my wallet synced.

Mine 2 x R9 270X TOP ( Powercolor ) are working fine with scrypt sleep but I have to select " GPU always on " in Boinc Manager.

If using box verified in "Use GPU While Computer is in Use" in Computing Preferences it will be unchecked after work comes in followed by sleep cycle, the only problem is that this way ( using "GPU Always On" in Boinc Manager ), it's assuming that they are working when they are not ( I have checked with Remaining Time in Tasks of Boinc Manager ), but in Task Manager of Windows one of my Threads ( this CPU have 4 Threads ) is only at 85% just like when they are actually working but when sleep kicks in they actually work.

I'm finding that I'm quite content with just getting my CPU rewards. I was mining at 800-850 KH/s and getting 0 to 3 blocks a day before, but that also rendered my computer (my primary machine) basically unusable. Now I'm still getting a decent numbers of coins, my BOINC rate is the same, and I can still use the machine

Plus I got that horrid AMD card out of my computer and put my nvidia GTX 650 Ti Boost back in it. It might be an older card with less power, but it outperformed the R9 290 for me. Likely due to AMDs terrible drivers.

If you dont need the 290...I would like to check out how it is to mine with such a beast as I'm only on CPU since the diff is > 0.8

If i click on "gridcoin portamonete" (portamonete = wallet in italian), nothing happen. When i start it, it appears only as icon!!

edit: i'm not sure that the wallet is working

Something is definitely wrong on your system. Delete the Gridcoin folder and install a fresh version in another folder.
